Who uses them? I usually say they are useless and the chain will never damage the stay enough to weaken it.. now that i have my new coust frame and its getting all nicked up iam 2nd guessing it.. do i need one?

i wrapper hockey tape around the stay, not because of fear of damaging the stay, just cuz i dont like hearing clink sounds when i bike

boooo, no chainstay protector they are a waste of 7 bucks.
Get a cheapo inner tube that you flated and wrape it around the stay the secure it with a couple of zip ties,
Or just wrap it in hockey tap.
Thats how the pros do it:h5:

I use tape. I could never justify buying a chain stay protector.
if you can get one for free use it, if not tape or tube is just as good.

A tube wraped like bar tape works great.

i do have a fixed tensioner too bad the chain is like 2 mm away from the stay even when tight.. and the tensioner loosens eventually
