i have a feeling people dont check the comp section of the forum much(i dont)... or just almost no one has responded, so whos going? cause if i can make it ill need a ride from boulder.

assuming things are like last year, there will be beginner, sport, expert and pro sections, cost last year was 30$ i think, free tshirt that i actully still ware. and free beer. and i think just about everyone got prizes last year so the cost isnt tooo bad.

best natural riding place i have ever been to. my pics from last year here - http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=22841&highlight=gunnison.

edit: drive is a bit over 4 hours from denver i think for those who have not been to gunnison before.

also keep your prize away from me after to comp, or ill puke on it. no, not as much drinking this year, i must be able to ride the day after the comp this year.

If I can get some shit done that I need to get done, I'll be able to make it. I can drive too, and I've got a wagon with a rack so everyone will be able to pile in.

I think I'll try and hit this on the way up to Salt Lake. Looks like a great spot.

Does anyone on this board live near Gunnison? It'd be nice to have a couch to crash on.

Greg would be the guy to talk to. he's been host to many a folk in the past or could at least find you a place to crash. i dont have his number handy but the Tune Up Bike Shop in gunnison is the easiest wayt o get ahold of him.

hartman rocks is easily one of the best places in the country to ride. greg's comps are the only events i have any kind of sentimentality for because they are always fun, always with good people, well run... just good stuff, every year like clockwork.

we were in a bar, half the people were underage and just got in somehow...there were probably 10 people there, all the party people were drinking far away from the cake. Elan just got up and took it, it was probably 20 pounds of cake- a huge monstrous fucking thing and walked out. as we were running from police or something he didn't see a huge ditch and just went straight into it, then someone right behind elan was so drunk that even though he saw elan fall he still fell right into it

don't be afraid of the rocks, they are really really easy sloping ones - you can just ride over them, no back wheel or relying on brakes.

redworm
08-01-2007, 06:31 PM
no relying on brakes? I think ttown will disagree after last year. haha

talked to fgreg and he says they've had tons of rain recently which has washed out the dirt road a bit up to the rocks so dont expect a small car or something with low ground clearance to get up the hill. im sure there will be a way to shuttle people up there from the lower parking lot if anyone needs it. just a heads up for you people going.

WhiteRavenKS
08-15-2007, 11:26 PM
it's like a quarter mile up the road to the rocks from the lower parking lot. im sure people will be able to give rides up the hill if you arent into the walk. greg said the road probably wont see any work before the comp.

Hey Mike, remember me? I used to ride them trials bikes too. I have pretty much left the trials scene... in case you can't tell. Bike's had the same flat tire for over a year.
I remember my one time in Gunny, something about not being allowed to drink in public or something... and someone lost a shoe during the night. Hm. Want to go for the festivities but work=suck ass schedule.
Eh...

I'll probably 5 sections for the rest of my life.
Progression is the last thing on my to-do list when I ride.
But fer sure, I'll be at the next comp. Unless its in like, Grand Junction or some gay place like that.

WhiteRavenKS
08-23-2007, 09:40 AM

your going to progress some by riding 4 times a week even if you dont try new moves/try to go bigger?

is there good trials riding in grand junction? my grandma lives out there, all i have noticed is big steep dirt hills that bring out the red neck in you when your in a truck. fruitas right there so amazing mountain biking(i hear) but i have not seen stuff for trials?

literocola
08-23-2007, 01:50 PM
I dont know about Fruita or GJ for trials, Ive only driven through a few times, but was only on the highway, admiring the stunning views and dreaming of Moab.

Rumor has it that Fruita is becoming the next Moab, but there is also the Ranger service talking that if people dont stay on the trails, their going to shut it down. Hopfully the XC guys can keep it on the trail so other riders dont loose Fruita.

just, dirt and small loose rock? theres a lot of steep dirt hills though :hs:. ill do some more exploring next time i go, and talk to the local red necks who shred all the hills in their ford pick up trucks.

it's colorado. in the mountains. there are rocks to ride out there. really good ones. i know of 3 spots that you could ride for a week each and not have covered all the stuff to do. it sure would suck to have to go ride awesome shit like that...

Keith Courage
08-24-2007, 02:03 AM
I don't remember rocks in GJ. I've driven through the town lots but never "looked around".
I remember that place sucks, HARD.
Nice rocks are great and all but would your rather live in fucking shit town with great rocks or an awesome town with nice rocks?

I also remember there's not dick to ride in Montrose, but thats neither here nor there.
