View Full Version : Do you wish you had a seat?

I still haven't bought a trials specific bike. Initially I thought that I would prefer a frame with a seat because, well it seems natural and maybe every once in a while I would want to sit on it.
All the bikes that I've seen have such small useless looking seats which makes me think that it's not such a good idea.
So that's the question- Do you find a tiny seat good for anything or do you wish you had a seat if you don't?

well, i have this small useless seat and it aint really that bad if you want to rest your behind for a minute or two. Its kind of hard at first but you will get used to it. I think that small seat makes a trial bike look quite handsome; if it has to have any seat at all.

Nope. When I had a seat on my bike, it was so low that my ass couldn't really sit on it anyway, except when stopped. Then the tire was a fine alternative.

you will learn to sit on the frame eventually when the bike is rolling and its fine! tire is just as good too.

Nah you get over it pretty quickly.

Ah, The Frame and the Tire....Never thought of that. Seems doable if I think about it though.
That helps out a lot, Thanks!

i swing both of my legs to one side of the bike, and sit on my opposite pedal and my booster. problem solved!

I have a seat on my non-trials bike but i put it down so low that its only usable when im coasting. I got used to not using my seat at all pretty quickly.

I used to have a mini seat. It became friends with my rectum and eloped fairly quickly.

I have a seat on my Zebdi and it just pisses me off. It is turned sideways after a few minutes of riding because it gets kicked, it is useles for sitting. It will be a little while before I can replace the Zebdi unless you want to buy a bike with a seat.

There is enough of a seat tube that I don't want to cut it off. Some people like seats and as old as the frame is that may be the only reason someone would buy it. As for me, my next bike definately will not have one.

I have a seat (and gears). I wouldnt want it any other way. I dont compete and almost everytime I ride it is for more than 2 miles.

I like mod bikes and my tire is way more comfy for resting on. I also haven't been squirrel-tapped by my seat since kicking it to the curb.

I wish my bike had a seat every time I coast.
Coasting gets to be a pain for my lanky ass.
Having ridden a monty mod with a seat a couple times in the past 3 months, I'm glad my bike doesn't have a seat when actually riding trials.

where'd that thread go that was recommending that a beginner cut a hole in their control to stick a seat in it?

i was the same way, not sure about the whole no seat thing. it's all about preference and how you want to ride it. some people have said they ride 2mi to get to where they ride. i'd want a seat in that case. i think the little dinky seats are a waste. but i've never ridden one so i can't say.

I have an old Pure with a seatpost hole. I bought it used with a cap in the seat (from previous owner who also cut the seat tube down a bit). Didn't like the looks of it and didn't want the cap going up my ass so I bought one of those ground down Echo mini seats. Used that for a while then decided to try a real seat. I rode once with it and now I'm going to rip it out and put the mini seat back on. Don't need a real seat on a trials bike! Just gets in the way and adds weight.

No. You'll find that, after riding trials for a few years, you'll even ride XC trails standing up

Seats are the appendix of the trials world. Unless you ride urban and cover a lot of distance , just sit on your tire. @ 30 psi it's very comfy.
