OK, i used the search function BUT BUT BUT the information i want is so scattered i was hoping a few people would chime in and just throw down a few lines of text for me... or throw me a link that will answer my questions!

Can anyone explain all the different handle bar specs, some i understand will be based on opinion, but i wanna know what i need to be looking for in a handlebar for my bike... I currently ride mod, but will soon ride stock, so the questions mainly pertain to a stock bike, if that matters...

Rise? What's high, what's low?
Bar style? Iv seen strait bars and such? what are the different types?
Bar material? Aluminum, Carbon fiber: what's good? Does carbon fiber break easy? Does stiffness matter?
width? what is WIDE and what is SMALL? What's good for trials?

I wanna look at all the different bars that are out there, but i don't have a base on what i should look for... i have the echo flat bars I THINK... not sure

***
ECHO flat bar is a super strong trials bar. 7075 aluminum, butted design.740mm width. 9 degrees back ward bending. Available in 6 colors.

Thanks for the help guys...

"flat" bars

i think once carbon fiber gets a nick in it, it looses a lot of stength? id suggest aluminum? cheaper, more reliable? i have ridden the flat bar on stock and mod. try out a riser bar and flat bar and get whatever you like? trials specific bars are really wide because you have better balance and they are oversized where the stem clamps on i think for strength/sniffness so make sure your stem/bars are compatable.

Good question, I'd like to hear some more input.

I guess it ultimately comes down to personal preference but it would be helpful to those of us who haven't ridden different bars to get a feel for the differences.

bars have several differerent dimensions.

Flat bars, Width, sweep (bend angle) Butt Width, (the part in the stem)
transition anglem (amount of taper) bend to center (how long are the straight sections) and grip length (sometimes limits lever movement)

Riser bars, have a bunch more dimensions, in addition to those above, you have rise (distance from stem centerline to centerline of second plane.
sweep back (when the rise is rotated straight up viewed from side of bike) this is bend angle viewed from directly above and finally upsweep, this is the angle viewed directly from the front, level with the stem. and a bunch of bend info that we will overlook.

If you ever happen to see a pair of SIC (dirt jump) riser bars, they have a lot of back sweep and no upsweep. Old motorcycle trials bars had plenty of upsweep and no backsweep.

I am still at the point where I am looking for comfort rather than leverage and control. I am using a XC riser bar with extensions glued in at 27.5" width. I think when my grips wear out, I am going to switch to a flat trials spec. bar.
