Does it matter if the FFW goes on front and track cog goes on back? This was the setup recommended to me but other people seem to be confused by it. Someone please bless me with some bike setup wisdom.

ffw goes on the front and track cog on the back. That is correct. Only reason you would put the track cog on the front is if you had a cassette hub in the back.
