NC Bike Trials presents: The Battle at Tar River Comp

Just giving a heads up, the date is set. September 1st 2007. This is the first time a comp has been held at this location. You will not be disappointed! This is by far the best spot I've ever seen in all of North Carolina. The city is really excited to have this come to their area.

For those coming from other states, Rocky Mount is a town just outside of Raleigh NC. It takes about 45 minutes to drive to the spot from Raleigh.

I'll link more details and the website as I get them together.

Thanks!!

Kudos to you for putting on a new comp in NC. The rider population there seems to be on the verge of significant growth so your timing is perfect. I've often wanted to do another comp in NC but my event at the NOC being about a 5-6 hour drive is pretty much my limit. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

There's also a myspace page with more pics of the comp site.

Thanks for all the offers of help, I'm sure I'll be bugging some of you with some last minute advice.
Yeah, you can go ride Battle Park anytime, the city has no prob with us riding there. Like Chris said it's literally right off the highway. See you all this weekend in VA!

Sorry you can't make it Jay.

I've got the traps planned out for the most part, and they're looking sweet! It's looking like 5 traps, 2 times each.

What sucks is I don't think I'll be able to ride! I don't know what I did to my shoulder but it is screwed. Landed funny a couple weeks ago (didn't crash) but I've got bruising all in my armpit and on my back. It's really weird, and I hate going to the doctor so I'm hoping it heals itself. Anybody heard of such a thing?

dkeller
08-28-2007, 07:12 PM
Oops, I meant 6 traps 2 times each.

Dang!
08-28-2007, 08:09 PM
What's your mobility with your arm?
It may be some torn ligaments or an minor A-C separation?
I've heard of people "breaking their collar bone (A-C joint) from a hard impact transfered straight up their arm. Happens a lot when people fall and try to catch themselves with their hands and end up straight arming themselves.
I recommend lot's of ice and stretching it slowly.

templarbond
08-29-2007, 04:27 PM
Derek,
Sorry about the shoulder still hurting.
I'll have a looky on Saturday.

You didn't mention that you kept riding for about an hour post injury, that when I kept saying "Stop, rest, take it easy buddy" :weak:

BTW, I don't think we call them traps anymore. Sections is more common.

I have never ridden trials before, but have always been interested. What kind of skills are required at the beginner level? I can ride up and down 1-2' rock ledges and can ride slow and steer well, but I can't pivot, side hop, back hop, and so forth. Also, I'd be riding a full suspension XC bike if that matters.

dkeller
08-29-2007, 09:32 PM
Ha! Well I'm kickin it old school, so once again 6 traps 2 times each. You get the idea.

You can definitely do the beginner traps with the skills you mentioned. They are set so you don't need a trials bike and very little in the way of trials moves. Mostly just what you mentioned, small dropoffs and tight steering....so come on out!

I can't believe it's an hour long! I really hate the word "extreme", although it does sound like a great drinking game.

Score! I got a copy last week, although I mailed them a $15 check, and all I can say is wow. I died laughing through the whole thing. That reporter (and Herb Greenberg on camera) are some characters. I'm not sure if they say extreme biking, Herb, or Battle Park more.

I'm glad Ben was able to make that "double back wheel hop" to make it over that rock, and Matt was able to score a sponsorship from Herb and WHIG TV. Ha!!!
