Hi all, just want to introduce myself. I've never riden trials and was really looking at motorcycle trials before I got turned on to bike trials.

Anyway, looking for recommendations on a first bike for urban riding. I've read a bunch of stuff but instead of telling you what I think I know, I'd be willing to get some input hopefully for a complete bike to start with (Stock that is).

I'd prefer something with a seat that could at least be raised for short rides. I'm a little over 6' and 185 lbs (and old if that matters).

Thanks

I just got an Echo Pure, its a great bike. No seat, but I havent found that to be a problem.

If you can find an older Echo Pure with a seat, that would work well for you. That's what I ride, but the seat tube's been cut down a bit...I might just be able to put a collar on it.

Are you looking for a dedicated trials bike for urban? If not, I would suggest the Giant STP. I ride the 14" frame, singlespeed with rigid fork. It's light and easy to throw around. I recently saw the frame's designer, Jeff Lenosky, pull some sweet moves on it.

I guess I need something to start with that's better than my 21" MTB. I've been trying some basic moves but don't have a lot of room to work with with the tall frame.

Also it's aluminum and I'm under the impression a steel frame would be better.

I'll check out the Giant and Echo.

Thanks

I also considered swapping all my cheap components to a better trials frame to get started.
My 21" frame is a little big for me anyway and it really feels too close for comfort.

I strongly recommend that you upgrade your brakes and, if possible, your cranks and rear hub.

You'll definitely appreciate the standover of a smaller frame!
