Still not 450 grams or below but a lighter version of the infamous Shinburger, the Veggie has pockets machined into it, bringing weight to 643 grams for the pair. I have VP on my Echo and and like that the vegie have 1/2 more foot real estate all the way around and are indestructible. Price is $100, has anybody used these yet. Yes I wear shin guards but what other opinions such as function \ quaility are there. I want to put these on my Adamant A1 http://www.brooklynmachineworks.com/parts.html

With Brooklyn pedals they have so many contact points you get a "bed of nails" thing going on and get less grip than one might think. Now, if your VP's are too small bacause you have huge feet thats a different story.

I love these. Very grippy, w/ replaceable studs.

I was hopeful that the veggie Burger version being skeletonized the "bed of nails" feel that the ShinBurgers have would be eliminated.

I would assume it would be worse o nthe veggies... less surface area = more pressure on the pins that are there.

That's a good thing man. The more pressure per pin the more they dig into your shoe, thus more grip.

i don't think anyone gets the bed of nails analogy correctly... He's saying that the pins are so large and there are so many of them, that they wont grip into the groves of the bottom of your shoes enough to grip, you kinda float over the spikes...

less is more

In the case of Vegie Bugers, 643g is less than the 18kg's of the originals, but still waaaaaay more weight than I would ever want in a pair of pedals.

My VP weigh in at 450g with both cages, Veggies being 643g for the pair is 96.5 grams per pedal. I can make that up that difference if I shave and clip my toe nails before I ride. My inner foot tends to rub crank arm and it causes me to stall and reposition the foot between moves. This just might be a bad habbit ...dunno but I'm only a size 10 but my foot is wide and it can be annoying. When I noticed that he veggies were 1/2 inch larger foot real estate the additional 96.g grams didn't matter to me. Veggies only have outer spikes for the most part so I can't see the bed of nails "float" being a problem if anything they are more like VP that one might think and was just wondering if anybody had a chance to actually try these out yet. Pehaps I'll review and if they aren't any good will put them on one of my other bikes.

while i appreciate the machining that go into these, i don't think i'd like these. if he drilled out the tips of the cleats and installed screw-in pins, he'd be on the right track. if he did this and offered different shaped pins, he'd be into $$$.

Yup I can see that or take a small cut wheel and "X" the top of the cleat making them even more of a shoe shredder.

I also have rather large feet and struggle to fit on a V8
If you want large foot real-estate without the massive weight, try these. They're Mag like the V12's and have sealed bearings. It's what I've got on my bike and have hda them for 5years now on 4 different bikes.

toyota200x thanks for the pic, I don't think my link was the visual folks needed. Garth MC thanks .....I like those felt pedals.

I looked them up online and found them for $129 on some random internet commerce site. Is that what these actually sell for? Also not that I'm a weight weenie but what is the weight on the version pictured above since they have two versions to offer?

I appreciate the replies so thanks to all.

129$? Damn, i have better things to spend 130$ on.
i have no problems with the cheapo 22$ tryall pedals(the ones with replaceable pins). You could get 6 pairs for that money.

I run the shinburgers on my Dh/FR/DJ ride and there great. I use to run a brooklyn machine works frame back in the day, heavy, but nice.

I only paid AUD$120 about 5 years ago for mine. From memory they're in the 400gm range??

The downside to the wellgo Mg pedals is the pins ripping out of the soft metal. I drilled out the holes a little and put short sheet metal screws in place . Better grip and no way they are ripping out.

Well I had the chance since I started this thread to try these out. It's confirmed ....pedals simply do not have the grip that my pins or VP pedals have when wearing my Vans. Pedals do however work great if you ride wearing boots \ shoes with deep vibram lug sole :) Tons of surface area and bling but thats about it. For trials, DJ, DH FR I'd have to say save your money and purchase pin \ VP pedals and call it a day. I took them off after 5 slips and less than 30 minutes of riding. I thought about cutting a slash "/" on top of each cleat with my dremel so they are not a total waste of money and give them a second chance. If that doesn't work I'll put them on my 29er single speed and wear my boots. I can assure you of one thing, nobody is breaking these pedals and will last forever.

Why, well because I had no choice it was this or put the $90 on a shelf. I attached some images of my altered BMW Veggie pedals. Nothing fancy but it did the job and they sort of still have that factory look. Might be hard to tell from the pictures but I basically put all four sides top and bottom on my 12" disc grinder station with slight angle. For middle cleats I used a 5" angle grinder in vise and held the pedals in hand. Pedals have tons of grip now and should NEVER be used without shin pads.
