Can anyone tell me what the important diffrences between these two sizes are? Im buying a bike soon and I assume I should know this.

Try searching for "stock or mod" etc. Theres tonnes of threads discussing this. :bigthumb:

i did some reading up before buying my stock, and i found this quote from matt staples particularly funny: mods are 100x easier, but 1000x gayor

need i follow that up with "no offense to the mod guys"? my decision was based on transitioning from a mountain bike. had i primarily ridden bmx, i'd have probably gone mod. though i have to say i got the "mod stock" or whatever (116mm hub spacing). some people may think that's 10000x gayer.

I debated for a while over stock or mod, I plan to do a lot of urban but I am in colorado so there's plenty of natural stuff to do too. This site doesn't get updated much but it goes into stock vs. mod pro's and con's.

I went stock, I get the feeling that someday I may transition to a 24 when they're more widely available. I have both BMX and and MTB backgrounds with about 10 years of non-riding inbetween. I think my brain is probably more hardwired for balance on a bmx, I also clocked a lot of trialsish stunts on my bmx. I've owned a 2 XC Mountainbikes and a Freeride bike while riding the front range in Coloardo and a dozen or so trips to MOAB (I at least try all technical isntead of walking my bike around.) I went with the stock since the bigger tires equal more stability and I was worried about having a long enough frame. I've had a lot of trouble finding big enough bikes for me. I don't like feeling cramped.

another long post. I'm bored while waiting for my bike to arrive, . should be 1 more week or so.

I ride both stock and mod. They're both tremendously fun. A mod is a lot more forgiving than a stock, obviously.

From what I understand, some of the pros train on both mod and stock.

I don't see why someone would call a mod "gay": are guys who ride superbikes gay because their motorcycles have 17-inch wheels?
:werd:

A mod is more flickable, while a stock can roll over larger obstacles.

Has anyone thought about trials on 29" wheels? Or 700C, maybe?

i thought it was teh other way too.

mods you have to get your wheel position more precise because of smaller wheels. you can't roll over stuff as well. and doing something like gap to rail is easier to stick on a stock due to larger wheel. But mods are lighter and a little easier on the rear and a lot of other stuff thats been said alreayd

good luck getting your ass to the side of the wheel for sidehops and taps

mod is 100x easier to do every single trials move on, but is 100x harder to go big with those moves.

I happen to love riding my mod more than my stock, but my stock is fun to. Mods and Stocks have there +'s and -'s, I don't think one is better than the other. My old school trialsners I use to ride with, think my mod is a cheater bike..lol

to each his own..

What I meant was that it's not as nasty to fall off a mod.
