Hey folks -

I just got an old-stock Hope Trials front brake - the '06 model with the old mini lever. When I lock the brake, it feels like the pads are shifting around inside the caliper ala Shimano disks.

I've been running the same brake (06 hope trials, 180mm rotor) on the rear of my bike - a KOT MS2 - for about a year, and there is definitely no pad play. Might I have the wrong pads? I got the brake direct from Hope USA on a pretty big discount, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Is there a difference maybe between the pad size for the mono vs mono trials?

Anybody got a good fix otherwise? I'm thinking about just JB-welding some shim stock to the end of the pad to snug it up.

Danka,

Jeremy

JB welding soulds like a good idea... at least you only harm the pads that way, not the caliper;) Whatever the case, I figure you should JB weld something softer than the caliper, so you don't fuck it up. It's probably listed somewhere what alloy they machine the calipers out of, so make your shim softer!

You'll notice pad play more on a smaller rotor, is your front also a 180mm? I've never used a hope, but I can certainly say I noticed the pad wobble more on a 160mm BB7 rather than a 203mm.

Emery cloth/sand/wet n dry and degrease the back of the pads, and also degrease the pistons as best you can - that should solve it :)

JB weld and bikes are usually a bad idea ;) Make sure that the pin hoding the pads in is snug. Just a thought.
