Hi,

What would be a strong chain that could be used with gears? Something except the rohloff which i find kind of expensive.
I got this KMC HX610, which is 3/32, and it said that is used for singlespeed but i thought i'd work, the thing that happens is it "rides" the teeth of the cog sometimes when changing gears and hooks pretty slow.

(no, i don't want to go singlespeed so don't suggest that)
(i did use the search tool but couldn;t find anything on the kmc for speeds versions, only the kool..)

I have a rohloff SLT-99 which I used for a week or so on a 32/16 setup that you can have for free. If you think Rohloffs are too expensive :)

I don't have any 9sp bikes.

I still use the cheapest KMC "Z" chain for trials, and change it every 4-5 months.
Never killed one.

Thanks a lot, man! I really appreciate it!!! really.

I am guessing i will take the shipping costs. I am living in Germany now. How does it work? Can You send it so that when i pick it up i must pay transportation or do i have to make a bank transfer prior to you going to the post?

(i will give a new unused chainring for free in your honour to somebody who needs it : ) )

about this, this is also great news since i am normally living in Romania, where those "chepest KMC chains" are like 4-5 euro, and i was talking about this just yesterday with a friend, about getting those chep ones and chenge them oftenly, ...and now, i got a confirmation, since i had doubts after reading some stories on this forum, so if it works for you, i'm sure it works for us (not the most advanced riders..)

So thanks again for both posts, and tomac, we can talk on private if you want. wayting for a sign from you,..bye

Ok I'll try and find it. If the shipping cost isn't too much I'll just send it. PM me your mailing address. If it's more than about $20 you can donate it to charity or give someone something.

found it. Exactly 90 pins long including the ones on the SRAM powerlink on it. You don't have to use that :)

I must add that I rides at 22-19 gear ratio. If you use front freewheel (about 18T front), these cheap narrow chains may will be weak.

no, both me and my friend are actually using a 32T :) (with the 28 cog for trials= close to the 22/19 ratio)
(and, no, the chainline isn't crooked, i use fewer cogs.. anyway, i might put a post about that after i finish my bike)

but what i am getting from you is that if the number of teeth on a chainwheel/sprocket is smaller, the stress on the chain increases?

Yes. Smaller cog --> bigger stress.
(Harder gear ratio --> bigger stress)
If you use 28-XX for trials (which is very strange) those cheap chains will last forever. :)

Great, man, thanks a lot. How about shipping? Let me know if i shold pay some. (also if you know an estimated shipping time, would be fun to know)

that's good news also. (i'll probably post my "very strange" bike after i finish it. it's a street/trials bike, hence the big chainwheel)

I don't know the shipping time, shouldn't be too long.

Price was $17, just give 15euro to a charity (Nächstenliebe?) of your choice.

Do you have an inability to read? Or are you just trying to get your postcount up a bit?

1) 810's don't shift
2) This problem has already been solved
3) You are a fucksticktakeitupthearseohyeahbabaybabymoremorehar derThanksDadIcamehard.

a trials rider's idea of shifting is doing an endo while pedalling wildly and clicking the shifter, then spending another 30 seconds or so fiddling with the shifter mid section to try to get it to shift up, often executed by shifting up to a larger cog then back down to the required one. for this, the 810 works fine.

hi,

i received the chain today, Joel. it's the same length as the one that i have so it should work, but now i am painting the frame so i can;t verify.
i sent 15 eur to these guys:
