I was climbing a short hill and my eno FW started skipping like crazy. Anyone else had this problem? Im gonna pull it apart tomorrow and check it out. Cant think of anything else it would be cause my chain wasnt slipping. Just heard and felt this pinging and slipping a bit. :/

And i broke my home made tensioner while adjusting it, but thats a different issue. And it was my first time back on the bike in like a month.!!

On an upside, riding in tahoe is awesome.

That was the 16t freewheel, I don't think the 18t will end up like that :p

mine did the same after a year and 1/2.. when i took it apart some of the pawls were cracked.. i called white and they sent me a rebuild kit (new springs & pawls) for about $40.. ftw or some shit..

If you ask nicely they'll send you new pawls for free.

I rebuilt it and it seems to be fine. Im waiting on my tensioner now which should be in on friday. Maybe today. Im trying some chris king ring drive lube in there, Ill see how it works out. I talked to a buddy and he said his ENO was problematic out of the box, but once he rebuilt it, it was fine.

You shoulden't climb hills with a trials bike.;) I had a friend with the same problem. He just took it apart and stretched the springs a bit and all was fine.

I rode it, it skipped again. Rebuilt it again, Still skipped. Gonna call WI and see what i can do. :/ Dont exactly have the cash for a ck. Given it would probably mean all new spokes and a spacer kit and cog.

Are you 100% sure it was your freewheel? Generally, freewheels skip during engagement, not when you're pedaling around. Think about it - to the freewheel, it just sees a relatively constant load, and the pawls are all just sitting there engaged.

I mention this because my drivetrain skips every time I pedal up hills - it's the chain skipping over my worn-ass cog. It only does this when the chain is actually sliding on/off the cog teeth, when pedaling. During trials moves, the chain stays basically in the same spot.

i have another eno question... i purchased my bike new built with an eno, and i noticed that when i spin the cranks the cog drifts back and forth. not in an uncontrolled or lose way, just back and forth 1-2mm (maybe more?). like a rim that's out of true. is my fw jacked or was it just pressed crooked? i noticed this before it was ridden. i haven't experienced skipping. seems to perform fine in my novice opinion.

that's the thread on the crank arm, nothing to do with the freewheel. It's normal, I've never seen a FFW crank which doesn't do it.

try a new chain and new front cog/chainring. theres a good chance one of those is worn down

I have a new chain on the way, I had a single half link to get the right tension. I ordered a Half link chain. (otherwise i dont get enough wrap) Ill try that. I shouldnt have any issues with a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 cog right? My FW is also a bit out of round. It diddnt seem like the chain was skipping, my cog and FW are pretty new and not worn much at all.

jkimmel, Good point about the FW not skipping while climbing a hill. That makes sense.

And again, The cog I have on there came off of my fixie. A new cog is next.

Thanks.

Wouldn't that require him not trying to pedalkick during a sidehop?

Is that because of poor alignment of the FFW crank threads? There's no reason it for it to be off like that is there?

Yes it's because the freewheel thread is not parallel with the BB taper. The most important thing is that the pedal thread and the BB taper are parallel with each other, and I guess the machining process just doesn't allow the same accuracy with the freewheel thread.

It's not a problem dude, seriously.

yeah, no issues performance wise... valuable peace of mind knowing it's common/normal to see that.
