Has anyone tried any of the external bearing ISIS BB's w/ their FFW cranks?
such as:
http://www.webcyclery.com/product.php?productid=17343&cat=252&page=1

My FSA Platinum DH gave up the ghost and I need a replacement. Most of the standard ISIS BB's are shit IMO. I like the idea of external sealed bearings, and a couple of the available ones seem like they could work, but...
It's an expensive gamble.
Anyone?

i think manimal has/had one of those...

here's another topic about them
http://observedtrials.net/vb/showthread.php?t=22002&highlight=external+bearing+bb

looking through some past threads mentioning them, sounds like they are not top choice. a couple con's i saw:
-not compatible with FFW
-have to run larger chainring up front to clear the bearing (i think they said 24t)
-damage to non-drive side bearing when/if you land on bash

I should of looked further eh?
I still think it may be possible... Doesn't seem like people have really tried.

Well- I need to find something-
has anyone heard anything about SKF BB's?

They make great bearings, and have been around for along time.
They have needle bearings on the drive side as well.

heavy but durable

Isn't that always the way...
For what a pain it is to swap out a conventional bottom bracket, they should last longer. How heavy is it? It seems the average weight of a BB is around 300 grams, unless your running Ti or something geared towards racing.
Is echo BB worth a damn?

External bearing will not work with ffw. Buy something cheapish and replace every 6 months..

swapping bottom brackets does not take all that long really. 10 mins max. i'd just buy something lighter and replace it when the bearings die.

alright fine then... Dang!
I still think it's a little bit of planned obsolescence though...
I think maybe I'll get some self extracting crank bolts though?

I haven't had any issues with my echo BB, and it is about 8 months old now.

you don't need the self extracting bolts, pulling the cranks and swapping a bottom bracket takes no time at all. Invest in a park tools crank puller and bottom bracket tool and you won't be sorry.

yeah... owned one and can't find it, haven't given up on looking yet...
I hate the idea of buying the tool again.

You can use my tools. Make sure you get a 128mm..

I got one coming tomorrow! It's funny- after all my figuring on a alt. route.
Their are few companies that even make a 128-
