try and find other people to ride with, especially people who are better than you. try to become a better rider than they are. absorb all the knowledge and technique you can out of them.

Sidehopping, back wheel hopping, front wheel hopping, gapping and bunnyhopping should be what you learn after you learn how to ride trials properly.

You didnt mention any of these things: Trackstanding, balance, natural riding.

Stop trying to do pro moves while you are a beginner, learn to balance your bike, learn to ride it through ditches and over rocks and logs, turn in tight corners.

practice. ride all the time. ride for 3+ hours, and never put your foot down, like in a comp. you'll find that you'll need to get better, and you will.

can you hop in place on your back wheel? you have to learn that first.

if you can already trackstand and roll over stuff pretty well, try rocking backwards and balancing on your back wheel.

once you can hop on your back wheel gaps will come from there. you wont be able to gap (at least correctly) until you can hop on your back wheel.

Trackstanding is balancing with both wheels on the ground.

Don't try to learn to gap until you are proficient at hopping on your rear wheel. If you try to get ahead of yourself, you will just have to go back and re-learn the basics. I had this problem, and regret it just about every time I ride. I know that it is boring trackstanding and rolling over objects, but you really need to do it.

Also, if you use some grammar and punctuation, people will be more willing to help you and put more thought into their responses.

A gap is the same as hopping on the rear wheel, but with a pedal kick to move you forward. You will have to preload depending on the size of the gap.

Watch some of the videos on the forum to see how other people do it.

you must be from england....

a gap is basically hopping on your back wheel, while at the same time letting go of the brake and kicking the pedals.

you have to be balanced on you back wheel to start off (see other posts), then drop down the front wheel a decent amount, then release the rear brake and kick the pedals.

the timing of releasing the brake and kicking is hard to get down at first, but once you figure it out it becomes rather easy.

at first you wont really be gapping so to say, more like hopping on the back wheel and moving forward a little amount each time. but that should get you started.

Buy the Ryan Leech video called. "Mastering the Art of Trials." Since you can't watch videos, this will help a lot. It will basically show you everything you ned to get you started in the right direction. There are also a lot of advanced moves in there as well. Well worth the money!

Here's the link to one place you can buy it. - http://adrenalinefilms.ca/Mountain-Biking-Video/Mastering-the-Art-of-Trials-DVD/

Not sure if you can get it cheaper anywhere else?

Just dont rush things... imo its better to get really good at the basics, like rush said, and progress from there. If you try huge moves when you aren't ready, you are just gonna hurt yourself.
