There is nothing better than the Rohloff tensioner! It is worth every single penny!!!

I am looking into buying a Rohloff tensioner, but I noticed that there are two different kinds. One has a longer arm (As pictured above) and the other is considered a DH with a short swing arm. I was thinking the DH might be good because it would be out of the way, but wanted to get some opinions first before I bought one.

Yeah... thanks... but that's what I have already. It's really nice cause it is strong and light. However, the problem with the Rennen is this - if you do not have the right gear ratio you are stuck using half links! (I guess it also depends on the chainstay length as well) I've broken two half links in less than a week!
BTW... I have an Echo Hifi with 22t in front and 18 in rear - just in case you were wondering the gear ratio I was running.)
Tonight I had enough and just went back to my old derailer... locked it out...and got rid of my half link.
So all that to say... which Rohloff tensioner? DH or regular?

I just got a rennen and put it on my bike. Works great. Why would you need to use a half link?

Like I said... it all depends on what bike you have and what the chainstay length is, or what gear ratio you run. With my bike the chain is either too short, where you can't even connect the chain together.
If I add a link to it, it has way too much slack even with the Rennen pushing up or down as far as it goes. Thats why I need a half link. 1 full link is too much.

Yeah, i was just trying to visualize in my head because my curent ratio and cs length it seems i have plenty of room. guess i got lucky.
wasn't doubting just couldn't picture it.

Yeah.. it was really annoying cause I didnt know that I was going to have to use a half link until after I bought the Rennen! Uhhg!

I had a rennen before I got my rohloff and it really sucked on my bike.It moved all the time and loosened the chain no matter how I tightened it. I think it might have been cause my derillaeur-hanger didn't fit properly and it moved with the rennen. However it's much nice with a decent spring tensioned one which allows some changes in the chaintension.

22-19 works perfectly on the HIFI. But the chain does stretch and it can become slack under pedal force. I too am looking into a sprung tensioner. But the Rennen is nice as far as durability. I have landed on it many times and it "hangs" in there. Rohloff looks the same as derailleur as far as vulnerability. might have to try it though.

its lots of better than a derailleur - no cage that stands out and its very tough when it comes to land on it, you only bend your hanger... try the dh-version - its a bit lighter than the standard version and very good adjustable on the hanger - you can screw it on at the position you like it (i have to admit you can do that on the standard version too with a little modification) - i hope you get what i mean :bigthumb:

the actual chain is much stronger, they say if you use a half link in a chain thats not half links, the half link will usually be the one to break since its not part of that chain.
