At the top of this forum is a list of manufacturers that will point you in the direction of the different bikes and how much they cost(yes expensive).
also go to the media forum and watch some of the videos that will show you how difficult it can be.
How much is "expensive" to you?
Some people have a skewed outlook and expect to find a $100 bike. Others think that dropping $2000 on their first trials bike is no problem. But, chances are that if you are asking you will find them pricier than you like.
The thing to understand is that trials is a relatively small segment of cycling. Thus there are not many manufacturers cranking out cheap completes. And depending upon where you are located, they may be difficult to find.

anywhere from 700 up for a decent used one or 1500??? up for a new one...you don't really need a new bike if you're a beginner though...there's threads about this

Look in the for sale section of the forum to find some good deals on used bikes. If you have a mountain bike, you can start to learn on that, just to see if you actually enjoy trials before you spend a lot of money on a trials specific bike.
If spending $1500 is no problem for you, look at these sites:

www.midwestbiketrials.com
www.trialsin.com
(these are US shops. I don't know where you live)

You won't find anything decent for $100-$200.
Where are you located? Most local bike shops won't have any trials bikes and most don't even know what one is. You'll most likely have to get one online and mailed to you. Check out those sites that johnglazer posted.
I've never ridden a mod (small) bike, only bigger (stock) bikes, so I can't help there. Do you have a mountain bike you can start on? That might be the best route for you.

I recently built my first bike. It took a while to get all the parts but I finished within my budget of $550. Most of the parts I bought off of Forum members here. I got my frame and crank off of e-bay.

Yeah, your best bet is too look around on forums until you find a cheap used one. I just got an older monty for 175 bucks that has broken cranks. the total cost of the bike after I get the cranks should still be under 300 bucks so I got a killer deal. Just look around on forums.

Or you could order a frame from that guy in Peru for $30 + $50 shipping. It would be heavier(steel), but still work for getting started.

Soul Cycles has a few other frames going out at ridiculous closeout prices for those who ride something other than trials as well....

Haha, I dumped $2375 on my first trials bike, and never spend any less than $2000 for me next. It also depends on your level of commitment. If you're serious, buy a good one, if you want to do it as a hobby, get a cheaper one.

there are kinda like 3 levels of bikes in the trials world. and this is just kinda my view at least correct me if i am wrong. you have the really nice bikes like koxx which are gonna cost you 1800if your luck on up to the high two grand. then you have the deng level bikes: zoo, echo, adament, GU, ect. brand new your looking at about 1100 - 1500 dollard depending on what components there are. then you have just shit bikes...tank which there arnt many of anyways. and thats new bikes. but you can find a good deng level bike for around 700 with decent components. i got my zoo python for 650 and it was a year and a half old when i got it w/o a scratch on itand all nice parts. sometimes you find deals like that you just have to be willin to search. but if your expecting to spend 100 dollars good luck finding anything period. one problem i have found is that because people have to spend so much more money on part and bikes because this is suck a nitch sport they expect their bikes to be worth a ton used. this is not true. so just be careful with what you buy. you might find something nice and it may be an alright deal but try and look at what people are charging and see if you can get less w/o lowballing them.
