So after dorking around trying to get rear wheel hops figured out and reading all the stickys, help, and advice from all the posts, I finally just did nothing but rear wheel hops until my wrists, arms and shoulders hurt. But I'm getting it. 5 days ago, 4-5 hops max. 2 days ago I finally got 6-7 hops. Today.... I finally pasted 10 in a row. after 2 solid hours of riding I'm up to 15-20 hops and feeling more and more comfortable with each one. Thanks Rush, for telling us to lean further back than I thought I should. Once I knew I could fall over backword a couple times without hurting myself I could stay there. My son kept telling me the same thing,.... lean further back, don't worry about falling over, feels sooooooooo cool when you finally start to get it. For those still working at it don't give up, keep practicing!!!!!! :bigthumb:

Just came in from helping adjust some maggies on my sons bike, and practicing more rear wheel hops. Up to 32 hops in a row! Actually able to do a slight turn on the rear wheel now!! I'm so stoked, feel like a kid in a candy store with $20 bucks in my pocket

cool. Start to try pedalkicks now. I remember that learning pedalkicks was quite easy after i could do 10-15 backwheelhops.
If you think backwheelhops, wait till you can do 2-4 pedalkicks. 10x more fun cause you can actually do something with it

Very true! I was getting pretty good at backhopping in place and doing 6-12" forward hops. But stagnating by focusing on the same thing and doing it over and over. A friend encouraged me to try to hop up onto a shorter-than-normal curb around a median in a parking lot. Honestly, that seemed beyond my skills, but I tried it and got up on the curb about the 3rd attempt. Then I hopped over one of the standalone parking curbs. I'm pretty psyched! It felt like I'd done something meaningful with a backhop, plus it feels like I'm really on my way to being a trials rider now.
So . . . moral of the story is to reach beyond what you think you can do, try new stuff, try to make it practical.
^^ Absolutely, trying different things is key.

Yep I'm incorporating pedal kicks into my hops now, also starting to get more control over where I can hop, (on top of a stack of pallets, on a large rock, even was able to hop to the edge of a 1 ft. high table and drop off to rear with a certain degree of control instead of just slamming down on both wheels like I did before. This last Sunday we, (my son, myself and some local friends), got a chance to ride with Darkside who happened to be in the area this weekend. Lets just say the Man has some wicked skilz. what a treat to watch!!!!! Great guy too, helped us with some techniques. Great inspiration :coold:
