It's kinda different for each kind of hop. Do you mean just hopping on the rear tire to balance (like a pogo stick)?

down back and up with your feet on the pedals. like a petting motion with your foots

Like a bunny hop...lol
I know its really basic, but I cant seem to get it. Front tire up is easy, back tire up isnt too hard, but getting them both at the same time is really hard.

BUT, I did nail a track stand today for nearly 30 seconds!!!

I'm not 100% sure what you're looking for but I'll throw in my limited 2 cents. May or may not help....

In order to lift the rear wheel you generally lift it with your pedals, specifically your rear foot. First, stand with your cranks flat, good foot forward. Point your rear foot down towards the ground (still keep cranks flat). Now, to lift the rear of the bike you have to do a combination of pushing back and lifting up with your rear foot.

I know that was probably confusing so I'll try one more time. If you just have both feet flat on the pedals and jump, you'll jump off the pedals. To make the bike come with you, you need to point your rear foot down towards the ground. Now press back towards the rear wheel with your rear foot, this will prevent your rear foot from coming off the pedal. You may now jump, but make sure to keep your rear foot pointed down, and pushing backwards.

Hopefully one of those two explanations helped. I wish I had a video camera to make a video of this. A video is worth at least 24.53 words.

maybe instead of trying to push back with your foot try pushing forward on the bars...then hop and keep pushing forward till you've landed

I think it would be easier to learn from videos but I do not know of any good ones. Perhaps if someone knows of some good tutorial videos they could link them....

From personal experience getting a rear off the ground, or progressing to larger moves is a lot about confidence and lifting/pivotting the bike with your arms.

You need to jump off the pedals and lift the bike so that you stay on the pedals. By lifting and pushing forward with your arms and pointing your rear toe at the ground and pushing back you should be able to get of the ground. The technique is the same for majority of the moves.
