I just spoke with one of the heads of the Richmond Sports Backers.....they put on Richmond's big 10k run and are also holding the Richmond Xtera Adventures Games Moutain Bike Race on June16th-17th. I told the guy we already had a NATs date in August.........I told him that I post a feeler to see if anyone would be intrested in showing up in richmond for a comp on these dates...........I'd hate to see it go to waste as it would be a great venue to help promote the sport further..........so let me know

Also, we could have acces to equipment to allow for sections to be created..instead of riding on the actuall rocks, that way it doesnt spoil the August event on the rocks??

P.S. If pro's were to attend I got the impression that their willing to pay top dollar for prize money!

I'd go, and I have some pallets that we could use.

It's a possibility for me.

My 2 cents on going not all natural... not the greatest idea because it might be more work than it's worth. Espically considering how far the spot is away from the mainland and how you would have to carry everything I just see that being a huge pain.

I also think it's a great idea to have this event with the others for spectators and such. Good thinking!

I think that spectators would enjoy watching a non-natural event over natural.

hopefully Dang! and muddyfox will be out as well.

I'll be there if it happens.
I have a meeting with the organizers on Monday morning. I'll let you all know what they want to do.
It'll definately help if I can tell them how many riders will show.

I was thinking alon the lines of a euro worlds or somthing and putting the sections next to the main festivities in the parking areas...but as Matt said it depends on what the sportsbackers want to do...anyway...we need more riders!!!!!!! Come out, come out , where ever you are!

Dang!
05-01-2007, 01:52 PM
I'm pro rider! The more riders the better- no?
yeah.. anyway- I'd ride.
How did the meeting go with R.S.B's?

Yeah- keep me posted.

They actually need some fab work done, so i said i'd send them your info :bigthumb:
Anyway they're all about adding bike trials to the event and the idea is to have a competition on the rocks at noon on sat 16th June and then having an exibition on browns island at the same time as a rock climbing demo, bands playing, fireworks blasting climax to the days events.
There will be medals, tees and stuff and were working on getting prize money sorted.
More info as things get organized.
Its going to be freaking sweet!!!!
Heres the offical web site for the games:

muddyfox
05-10-2007, 08:30 AM
some kind of rack for net ball posts...apparently they are really expensive and they've been transporting them on pallets.

Dang!
05-10-2007, 08:52 AM

I can show up. However, not to be a late arriving punk in the conversation but I would go for natural if you could. It requires a lot less fucking around, just set the section tape, then ride, then take the tape down. Messing with pallets/fabrications/big heavy shit would sucks unless it's for a big time comp where you have a lot of elite riders who can rail it.

va_tick
05-10-2007, 11:03 AM
I think the comp will be on the rocks and they want a demo in the more urban enviornment?? That would be great if you could make it out!!

muddyfox
05-10-2007, 11:23 AM
Yeah, the comp is going to be on the rocks. Then anyone that wants to can join in with the demo afterwards.

We have a few ideas were working on and I'll start a new thread soon when the website has ben updated with the comp and registration info.
If some of you can help on friday afternoon/evening that would be cool. I have to work and i cant get it all done on Sat morn.
Also if anyone knows where we can get stuff for the demo from, spools/pallets/rocks/cars whatever, let me know.

Nice! This event sounds like it's going to be amazing! I love that picture too (I never got royalties for it! hah jk)
Unfortunetly it's not going to fit my schedual, but I'm gonna come down to ride some weekend during the summer before the NATS comp though. Goodluck with everything, and take lots of video and pictures to post!!

johnglazer
05-23-2007, 06:53 AM
That is making it sound like the comp will be just one class...

Dang!
05-23-2007, 08:22 AM
I can help set up any obstacles and what not.
On another note, the description of the event is a little funky...
It does sound like there is only one class. And what's with the top three "male" riders, sure there may not be many/any females, but if they are- what the fuck! Kinda short sighted- no?
I have a spool, and could get a couple more maybe? I think I can get a bunch of pallets @ $5 apiece or a little less.
Matt are you in contact with Jon @ RSB?
Are they willing to put any $$$ in for set up?

muddyfox
05-23-2007, 09:36 AM
Alright heres the idea...there will be different classes but everyones scores will go in together, so all the riders will have a shot at the prize money and medals. The section difficulty will just be to handicap the better riders as we probably wont have a big turn out.
Male/female thing can be corrected. I dont think they're going to spend money on a bunch of palletts. I'm trying to work the browns island stuff out with them now.
Any ideas or suggestions, let me know.

johnglazer
05-23-2007, 10:44 AM
Now I gotcha on the scoring.

I can get some more pallets for free.. some nice, some decent. How many pallets are we thinking we will need? I can probably get some more of those CHEP pallets and maybe some other heavy duty pallets. I can get a big spool and 3 big tires that we can use. (and one of you lucky riders can have them if you want)

I can help setup thurs evening/friday evening/saturday morning (hell, I'd start working on it at 6 am if i need to). I've got a couple cordless drills we can use, and a bunch of boxes of screws, and some scrap 2x4s and other wood. I also have a couple cordless recip. saws and circular saws.

Let me know how I can help.

from there, you would turn right onto Tredegar St., on the right, after the war museum, there will be a parking lot. That would probably be the easiest place to park.

I just got out of a meeting with the Richmond Sports Backers:
We need to get a running count of how many riders, what level ect...
All of us local folks need to gather all we have for obstacles and come up with a good game plan, as we will have Sat. Morning until the comp. to set up and then maybe some time after. Let's get together @ Big Bear and go over some running ideas.
Let's get the word out, and get more people here. It should be fun!

i was planning to pay at the event, too, but i was wondering if it would be a significant help to the event organizers to pre-pay.

this will be my first comp... how long do these things typically last? if it starts at 11, what time to people generally get there? (i'll give myself a good half hour to park and walk across the bridge to the island.) what is the event schedule like? do beginners do their first section, then sport, then expert, then beginner second section? or are different classes riding at the same time?
