View Full Version : Technique for pedalkicking down a slanted rock

I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on pedal kicking off the edge of rock that is slanted downwards. I have found that my brake tends to slip when hopping on the rear on something fairly slanted. I know a sharper grind can stop this somewhat but I was wondering if there is a technique to putting less stress on the brake in the first place. Also, even with perfect brakes I find that when I go to pedal kick the wheel rolls too fast down the slanted edge for me to get any push off of it. I think I might have to lower the front more and kick the wheel more into the rock instead of downwards with the slope. Make sense? Ideas?

Thanks

better brakes, and just hop as smoothly as possible. if you're pedalkicking off it, you just need to jump more and rely less on the kick.

rely less on the kick. as for getting into a rear wheel position, i find twisting so that the bike is perpendicular to the slope helps a bit.

yeah, if its possible, just don't go straight down the slope.

What they said, more hop, less kick. I find it helps to get my weight lower too. Not necessarily back, that'll make it easier to slide out.

If I can help it, I try not to go to rear at all when going down something steep.

Something else you can is to do is the 'give and go.' You go to the rear wheel on the slope and then pedal kick right away for the gap/drop or whatever. When you land on the rear wheel the front end should be lower because you are preloading and whent he front end is lower the brakes won't slip as much (or at all).

where's that video of kenny doing a 360 turn back wheel hop on a slanted board? One of his first rides on a monty i think.
