Title: 24 Hours of Big Bear Lake, WV
Saturday, June 9th 2007
Event Director: TIm Williamson - tim@trialsin.com (tim@trialsin.com)
Event times: 8am-11am beginner/sport. 1:30pm-4pm expert/pro.
Entry fee is $38. Includes bunnyhop comp, should you choose to enter that.
about: Celebrating 8 years of cooperation with Granny Gear Productions (king of the 24 hour endurance races!, see grannygear.com). NATS/Granny Gear trials events have hosted the top riders of trials over the years, and this year is no exception! Beginner/sport riders to compete in morning, allowing them to watch the expert/pros in afternoon. As in years past, unicycle guys are always welcome (you are insane, you know that don't you!).
Directions: Can be found on www.grannygear.com (http://www.grannygear.com)
Accomodations: Morgantown (about 30 minites away) http://www.tourmorgantown.com/lodging.php (http://www.trialsin.com:2095/horde/services/go.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tourmorgantown.com%2Fl odging.php)
Camping right at Big Bear Lake http://www.bigbearwv.com/ (http://www.bigbearwv.com/)
Something fun to be added to this years festivities will be bunny hop/skills comp (open to bike and uni guys) at 6pm near start/finish area! This will be alot of fun....and I'll throw in something for the winner.
As usual, we always need volunteers! Specially for beginner and pro catagories. Soda or water and a sandwich will be provided to those who help us out in this area. Help a begginner get a feel for the sport, or keep a PRO on line! Trials competitions are only as good as the people who help make it happen.

EXPERT. Look the word up in the dictionary. It does not say "catagory created so occasional weekenders can feel good about themselves".
Ouch,

This topic has been covered a number of times over the years...... short story is that I have gotten to a point in my life that losing a few hundred+ $ each time I put on an event kinda takes the fun out of it. And I want to have fun doing them.

Cool, I think this is going to be a pretty great event. Just need to get there earlier enough so that I can clear brush!
I don't camp (want my own clean shower, air conditioning, pub near the college and address pizza guy can deliver to and still have the pizza be warm). Anyway, I booked in:
Ramada
20 Scott Avenue
Morgantown, WV 26508 US
Phone: 304-296-3431
It is about 1/2 hour from Big Bear Lake.
Any help checking during event will be rewarded with food, and eternal praise by me (because that is worth so much.....meh...).
as of now it's gonna be a wet one.

I'll be there. I just mapped it and it's only 3 hours from where I live now! (Everything on the east coast is so close, tis crazy) Anyway, haven't rode in a while so this should be fun.

From the looks of it, this is a big event. How will we know where the trials comp will be held? Will there be signs or do we tell the event officials what we are there for?

Short answer just to ask any the registration people where trials registration is. Every year I have worked with Granny Gear people that was enough.... .they are usually quite well informed. Let me ask them tomorrow morning if any detail more can/needs to be provided.

Ok, thanks Tim.
I still have to book a room, but I have to wait until I get paid on Friday. I am hoping there are a bunch of hotels in the general area just in case the Ramada is full.

Hey Tim, can you bring a couple of pairs of clear velo grips and some of your new brake pads? Thanks man.

06-04-2007, 12:14 PM
Out of clear Velo grips. But will bring MOE brake pads.
Just to set trials equipment myth #473 straight. Velo clear and color grips are of exact same compound (color of dye does nothing to ingredients). Black grips do have carbon in them, which only side effect should be longer wear.

I know it sounds nuts but I've observed a 'clear' difference with the clear grips (pun intended) over darker colors. I've noticed it takes them longer to get soft (non statistically sound study). I'm no scientist but I'm going to chalk it up UV degredation and with darker colors absorbing more UV rays. In combination with that monkey semen I use to wash my bike. However, I'll take whatever color you can rumage up. Thanks for bringing that stuff.

If you came down you would know (ha, ha, ha....just ribbing Tom!).
Actually, once I figure out how to work the NATS web page I will post them and let you all know they are there.
I had a great time. First competition I have put on by myself in quite sometime (think Seven Springs in '04 was last time). Anyway, the rocks were pretty cool and the people were definatly a great bunch. Jay, hope your noggin' has fully recovered! The weather was awesome, 80 with a light breeze and it was dry.
To nitpic... I might have tweeked PRO just a hair harder.... and maybe a sliver harder for Expert. In looking back at it all.... guess I am pretty happy with them overall.
We were lucky this year in scoring $10 meal tickets for all the riders. The fajita place made some pretty tastey food. Hope next year we can get that deal again next year.
HUGE thanks to Brad for checking the Beginners in the morning. Big thanks for all that helped tear down sections after.
Hope everyone had a good time and wants to return again next year!

The meal ticket made up for that stupid wristband we all had to buy for $10.

I must say big bear was a blast, it's been 3 years since i've competed in a comp. Tim, Good job on the sections, I think they were right on target. Challenging and super fun. Expert could have been a tad bit more difficult in my opinion.... but I had a blast riding a 36lb bike. Props to a great event. Looking forward to next year.
