If you have a freewheel on the front (ffw), you would want a fixed hub.
If you are not running a FFW, you probably wouldnt want a Fixed hub ( I cant see trials being very easy running a fixed gear.....)

Unless I am mistaken you can use a freewheel hub with ffw. Maybe someone can confirm this. I have very little experience with ffw.

technically though, wouldnt that eliminate the FFW, all it would do would allow him to use the same (ffw) cranks

My buddies ffw setup has just a regular threaded cog on it. :dunno:

then it's not a front freewheel is it... it's a threaded cog on a threaded crank.

It is front freewheel. Just a regular threaded cog on the hub, but a freewheel on the cranks. Sorry that was unclear.
Maybe I'm confused. I thought he was asking if he needed a track style cog and lockring for the hub, which I don't think you do. Any threaded hub will do. Correct?

Front freewheel means that he is running a crank mounted freewheel. If he is running a threaded cog up front and a regular freehub out back then he is just running a threaded cog on a threaded "FFW" crank. Not a FFW setup. :bigthumb:
Edit: It's late so I may have just agreed with you, I can't tell. Haha Either way a Crank mounted freewheel and fixed rear hub are great. Haha
