Only the second ride on a brand new HOPE stem.

have you contacted them or at least the dealer you got the stem from about a warranty replacement? if not, do that next time before posting pics.

and you're SURE you didn't over torque that bolt?

If that is only after two rides, its either:

A- That stem was a defective one.
B- You torqued the bolt down way too tight.

If it is simply a bad product/design, it will still last at least a few weeks. Failing after 2 rides means that something went wrong in the manufacturing of that particular stem, or that it was installed improperly.

I Have Not Over-torqued A Bolt Since I Was Eight. I Am A Big, Strong Guy, But Stupid I'm Not. In My Experience The Steel Bolts Typically Strip The Alu Threads Before Anything, And Working At A Bike Shop You See Kids (and Adults) Do This All The Time. In Short; I Can Assure You That It Was Installed Properly.

Then Working At A Shop You Should Know That Sometimes A Product Is Defective And That It Does Not Mean That All Hope Stems Will Crack Like Yours Did

he's not saying that... he said he contacted them about a warranty first- i assume that means he cleared it up with them. the thread title is 'beware' as in 'heads up other people' not "omg hope stems are the suckzors, dont buy waaa poopface'

Thank you WhiteRavenKS, at least you understood what I was getting at. Hope is going to warranty the stem, I was told it was a bad face plate (which does occasionally happen) and the ordeal does not change my opinion on Hope. I still love their brakes, stems, skewers, and lights, and I will continue to use them. I do appreciate that the twenty year old kid was quick to attack. I think youthful angst is cute

My fault. So many people call stuff crap because they break it quickly, or if they hear of one breaking quickly. I assumed that this was another one of those posts.
