Messing about last night in a small resturant parking lot and i got my first spectators!! I was just practicing simple stuff..pivots, trackstand and side hop/bunny hop things on to double stacked curb thingys (little more than a foot).
About four people left the restrant and as they were leaving they pulled up to the road as if they were gona drive out then backed up and watched me for a few minutes. I know I cant do jack compared to some of you guys but it's cool knowing that even though i'm only just barly scratching the surface of trials my current skills are still way better than general peoples abilities on a bike enough so that they'll stop to watch...
Anyway..not much but still a better feeling than watching a video on here and not being able to do anything like it in real life
Anyone fuck up and bust their balls or something with their first spectators??

I don't even know if most people remember their first spectators, especially those who ride on campuses.

You must be doing something right if people are watching :)
It may sound weird, but I usually avoid people when I'm riding (other than fellow riders). I don't like being watched. :dunno:
I quite enjoy people watching. Mainly because it helps bring the sport to the public.

I've had quite a few spectators...most/best was when I jumped from this big rock structure in the middle of a fountain to the curb/edge around the fountain (about 6ft drop and 5ft gap)...people were cheering

On campus I get it all the time, even if I am sucking it up. The best was when some guy walking with his girlfriend decided to be an ass and ask if I had pegs. I told him I only had one for his girl to ride. She laughed..... he was PISSED. Haha

 did she ride your peg???
I kinda liked the spectators...helped me focus and it was kinda motivating to practice more.
After they left I crushed my nuts on my back tire and fucked my shin up again....good thing they weren't watching then

One guy with his girlfriend and friends called me a fucken fagget when I was riding and his girlfriend slapped him hard! It was good for a laugh.
But yeah, I usually like people watching.

I was riding on a small wall years and years ago and there was a car in the road waiting to turn into a parking lot... he wasn't watching me... but the guy in the car behind him was watching... and then he crashed into the back of the turning car. It was a pretty hard hit, too. They were both okay... but I took off before the cops came...

At my normal spot I get all the guys doped up on drugs watching me. Oh shit man, aw man. shit. Aww, that's dope. And/or too cool rich girls with big sun glasses with small dogs.
I learned to ride on a campus people were always around trying to figure out what the hell i was doing.

I fucking hate spectators. but only because in st. pete spectators are faggot bums that ask incredibly idiotic questions and then ask for money.
I say we build a soup kitchen just to bomb the shit out of it when its at full capacity.
It should be legal to kill bums.

I really enjoy riding on campus. I am still learning the basics, but no one really knows the potential of the sport, only that they don't see people doing the simple things (to me) that I am doing on a bike. The girls definitely get the most interested and make up about 70% of the spectators I would say.

I was side hoping and kicking up to concrete bench on the local campus outside the library. People come and go all the time. Then a cute lil blonde chick came out just as nailed a sidehope to rear, 180 and drop. She actually stopped and said "COOL", then walked off.
I said thanks and continued riding. Then I looked and as she was walking away, gave me several more looks. That's the first time in 15 years I had a chick do anything like that.

My experence with spectators is often negative, "you could fall and hit me" comes up alot even though I'm 40 feet away, then they call the cops... I think the few close minded bad apples stick out more in my mind the the hundereds of nice people I meet.

i think everytime i ride i have to explain why i have no seat or i have to explain what trials is. i have no idea how to explain it and give it justice. then i go to show them and most of the time there is just a curb or something small to hop on. i dont remember my first specators mainly bc ive been riding for a little over 2 years and more times than not there will be spectators. its funny how in the trials world hopping on the real wheal or doing a small side hop is everyday stuff, and yet it can stop traffic for other ppl. bla i said it

At least three people took pictures of us today.
A homeless person told me how much Lance is really kicking ass now.
He also said we were tough as nails.
i always get old women shouting at me for riding on ledges and benches and one time this fully-sick bro with his girlfriend was being a dickhead and asked if i liked to ride my (small) seat hard and good, and i just said YES. YES I DO.
his girlfriend cracked up and he had nothing to say haha.
but what really brings a smile to my face is when im riding, some little kid goes 'daddy, why is his seat so small' or 'daddy, look at this kid riding his bike. that is so cool' and then the dad exaplins to them what trials is and is all about. These people are just your average dad with little kids and someone you'd never expect to know about trials. Its good to see we are getting a small amount of recognition

You know, out of all the people that ask me questions about my bike, it seems guys above the age of 50 or so know more about what trials is than anyone else.
I guess its because of '70s moto trials :dunno:
30 year old LBS mechanics know dick about trials.
Its utterly idiotic that I have to explain what trials is to 99% of my LBS'. Shouldn't you know this stuff if you work in a bike shop?

That's funny, sad and true all at the same time. =l There's a trials friendly shop where I live, but they don't sell anything trials related...a couple of the mechanics ride trials though, so I can go in there if I need help.
