So my current cranks are on the bent side now and I am thinking of getting new ones.

What's the people's take on TryAll vs CNCed Echos?

I've seen a few Echo/Zoo cranks which got twisted in a relatively short period, and I know that TryAlls had a lot of issues a few years ago. I don't have the money to get the burns, but would like to get cranks that will remain straight for at least a year and a half.
I am about 150lbs and most of the crank damage is due to failed taps.

I've personally seen 3 failed sets of older tryalls (2003-2005 production types - the roundy ones). Mind you, I've never seen bent ones, just blown pedal threads. Until they stick a threaded insert into them, I would shy away from tryall stuff.

I don't have any input on CNC echoes - my CNC tensiles work great, though, and shipping from tarty wasn't even that bad.

If I could have my pick nowadays, it'd be burns with Steve's new 18t setup :)

i'm using the ZOO problem free for about a year now. don't see myself riding any other cranks but ZOO cranks.

I haven't been running the Try-All's for very long, but they have held up great so far.

Is the echo forged 6061 any better than the cnc 1?

Other way around.... the CNC'ed is the nicer one.

Steel insert for pedals is largely a feel good thing. It is not relevent to how tight you keep the pedals. Accuracy of threading machined into the arm is relevent.

Older Tryalls were just old FSA inexpensive cranks with expensive sticker. The latest generation cast aside all similarities but name.

So are the zoo cnc cranks and the echo cnc cranks the same thing with different branding?

Well, zoo, echo, adamant and czar are all pretty much the same.

you can tell by looking at them that they are different. just because they come from the same factory doesnt mean they are the same.

Up until recently out of the cranks I have used I would have strongly recommended the Zoo! cranks but after stripping the freewheel thread and going back to my used Tryalls, I would have to say the Tryalls as they are lighter and still pretty tough.

:wavey: How many of those are you attributing to me?

I've stripped 3 pedal threads and the crank removal threads on the older tryalls. But with steel inserts, I still got several years use out of those cranks. Running the new Tryalls now, with no problems yet (only been a month). I keep going back to them cause they're one of the few cranks offered in 175 and Burn's are hard to get in the states now and didn't have a 18t option till Heatsink stepped up.

In theory, all Zoo, Adamant, Echo, Czar, whatever cranks will all have the same strength, as they'll all made at the same place, using the same materials.

I've had Zoo cranks (older ones..) for ages now, no problems at all.
I stripped all the threads in my old Echo forged cranks with ease, didn't even cross-thread it at all...

Strength wise, Drop Forging gives higher strength than billet. Have a search on the internet for more info. I've heard figures of 30% strength increase (to be substantiated)

It's the drop forging which gives Middleburns their legendary strength.

If you need mod cranks jut buy these. BONZ BABY (http://cgi.ebay.com/Bonz-Isis-mod-trials-crankset-cranks-crank-set_W0QQitemZ190094728879QQcategoryZ58082QQssPageN ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I stripped the pedal threads on the Zoos within a month, got them warrantied, and they have been great since then (less than a year).

So I now debating between used Bonz from UK or TryAlls.

Although I really like the idea of RS7s as you don't have to dick around with the threads and you can use several cog sizes.

I think that forged ones are technically a little stronger if properly forged, but they are more brittle. That is why forged cranks are more likely to snap and CNCed ones are more likely to bend. Is that accurate??
