The graphics arnt final yet, but I REALLY like them as they are!

I have ridden it for 10 mins, its soooo nice!

Front end looks really good. The rear seems a bit "skinny" compared to the front, but overall, I love it!

bike looks sharp. glad to see the new model for sure.

And since they look like they're the same dropouts as used on the pre-mk5 Zebdi, it's a safe bet that they'll break when used with a disc.

cheers guys

the frame is a proto, martyn wanted my feedback on what I thought of the disk mounts, I'll tell him to either make REALLY beefy well designed mounts, or non at all.

Good thing Ali. Honestly, if those are the same dropouts as the old zebdi (they certainly look like it), then those used to break all the time. The tabs were too thin and would crack, right near the disc caliper.

I wonder that too Jm. Although, were I to build an Ashton I'd keep it on.

Good looking frame, sir. Ashtons are one of my favorite stock bikes.

tubes are hollow, rods are solid. i think. maybe that "heavy looking" front end will be countered by the "logically heavier" rear wheel?

Hey Ali C, how does this bike compare to the old one.

More specifically, what are some advantages for this new frame, and what are somethings that can't be done as well as on the old frame.

Thanks.

jake1516

This is a more UCI comp bike than previous ashtons.

The new headangle will make taps easier aswell as roll off's. (edit: id imagine the streety style of the original ashton's won't be as apparent, they won't feel so flickable either with the added length.)

I allready said it on T-F but ali has pimped this out to the max, Carbon BB axel, titanium pedal axel's not to mention a carbon comp stem. I said on T-F that it was all pretty wasted when you have a functionless disc mount, but on top of that he has 4-bolt mounts, along with V adapters.

Now fair enough this is a proto, but I seriously hope if ali is going to go to the bother of putting a carbon stem on to save a few grams, couldn't ashton make up a few frames for ali with just v mount's, and no disc mount at all, because if it does end up having a beefey disc mount, that will just mean it'd be the same as a bike with a normal stem/bb/ etc but no disc mount?

See what I mean?

Why go to the hassle of buying such light parts when your putting them onto a frame that doesn't save all possible weight?

it has a titanium axle, not carbon:P

Martyn wont do a vee virsion as there isnt enough demand and he would have to order a large batch at a time, so doing a one off isnt cost efficient. Also martyn is sponsored by magura, making a vee frame might not go down well.

The disk mount isnt set in stone by any means, martyn just wants feedback, so we shall give him our ideas.

because it's a prototype and they're just dropouts... you point at something in a catalog and then the factory poops something out.

i have cable guides/stops on my frame that dont see any use and im sure lots of people who single speed their bikes do too... but no one's vagina is hurting over that. :hsugh:

RyanMcVicker
03-17-2007, 01:12 AM
see the thing is... i dont think brake housing stops/guides can fail... disc brake tabs can... so thats beside the point... might as well make the mounts worth using if you put them on the frame at all.. such as the brisa/megamoo mounts where they mount on the chainstay.. DURRRRRRRRRRRFFFFFF

WhiteRavenKS
03-17-2007, 04:10 AM
might as well keep them the way they are and sell the frame with a big sticker on it for people who's vagina wont stop acting up:

I never thought I would leave vees, but I was really interested in trying somthing different to a maggie.

I dont like the shape of magura levers and I am really scared of snapping them. This deng brake should be a lot better.

As soon as I opened the box I could tell it was in another legue! Its machined really nicley and has some really nice details (like the hose comming out next to the bars, almost impossible to hit). It really reminds me of a hope mono trials in how its machined.

Performance wise, I am REALLY impressed, the main reason I had a vee was because I would get arm pump with a maggie because it was hard to pull, with a little fiddle my brake is now easier to pull than my vee was! Its got a lot more bite than a vee, I can only hope it has the same hold!

The weight is good too, lighter than a maggie and a lot lighter than my vee setup.

put new stickers on too.
