I'll split, we have stayed at the Nantahala Inn before, there are other options even on site. I'll check on rooms when I know if Andy from this area is coming.
Also, if anyone in the Chapel Hill area(Or you guys coming past) wants to share vehicles, we will leave around 2pm lastest. I have an astro van with 4 rack on the hitch and 2 on the roof.

I'm still deciding on what I am doing. I'm thinking of flying down instead of driving. However, I am not sure which airport would be the best option. I did a search and it looks like Asheville, NC (AVL - Asheville Regional) is within an hour drive.
I'd be flying in from Philly.
Here is the list of airports I got so far. Any help would be much apreciated.
Greensboro, NC (GSO-All Airports)
Asheville, NC (AVL-Asheville Regional)
Charlotte, NC (CLT-Douglas Intl.)
Fayetteville, NC (FAY)
Greenville, NC (PGV-Pitt-Greenville)
Jacksonville, NC (OAJ-Albert J. Ellis)
New Bern, NC (EWN-Simmons-Nott)
Pinehurst, NC (SOP)
Raleigh, NC (RDU-Raleigh Durham Intl.)
Wilmington, NC (ILM-New Hanover County)

Yeah, I was planning on getting a rental, but if anyone is familar with that area and could tell me which airport would be the closest, it would save me on a lot of needless driving.
Driving down is not an option just because I have to work till 6PM the Friday before the comp.
I really want to go to the Texas comp, but I just don't have the money right now.

Asheville would be the easiet. (About 70 miles)
Knoxville second easiet. (About 90)
Raleigh, forget it, still 330 miles away.

If you fly into Knoxville you get to drive the rental car over Deal's Gap. Well worth the extra 20 miles IMHO. (I'm assuming that the Knoxville airport you speak of is the one south of Knoxville near Alcoa TN.)

You could fly into atlanta and catch a ride with me!
According to google maps its about 2-2.5 hrs drive from where I'm at but you wouldn't have to rent a car?

Glad to see so many are interested in this event. After the 12 rider turnout of last year, I've been unsure how it would go this year. It'll be great to see so many of you again and meet the others I haven't met before. Have a safe trip everyone. See you there.

I may actually be able to take off the friday before so I can drive down. Still waiting to hear from my boss.
Other thing... if I need to fly... I am trying to figure out a way to travel with my bike without it getting all jacked up and not get charged $80 + each way.
BTW... anyone have any pics from previous comps? (Besides the couple of pics on biketrials.com)

I've never been to a comp, this is the first one i plan on going to, I'm sooo used to urban i'll prolly get roxxed if i go in expert like i planned, i'm gonna try and get Jamesb to come with me, but i dought he'll wanna come cuz it's far. Will i be able to look at the courses before i register, or will i have to guess which course i'd best be suited for?

You can look at and walk the sections before the comp to get a feel for it.
Just a heads up...I've experienced this and I have heard from a lot of other people as well... comps are much different than just goofing around town with your buds. For some strange reason when I am competing I can't do half of what I can normally do while I am practicing. Not sure what it is? Nerves I guess.
I don't know... maybe I'm just old?!?!?
(I just noticed that this comp is the same day as the Tishomingo comp.)

No it's because you aren't under anywhere near the same pressure when you are riding with your buds. In a comp you have to worry about making the move first time, and you have to worry about not taking 6000 years to setup the move because you won't have time for the rest of the section. You then can worry about the next move that is really hard or scary. Riding at the edge of your abilities under all of this stress is why comps are almost completely a mental game.

Very true Tom! Yeah I kinda realized that when I just ride to have fun and not think of it as a comp, I do 100 x's better.
BTW... my boss gave me April 13th off, so now I can drive down with no problem. Wifey may actually come along for the ride and no kids!

I noticed the lodging info on the first page, but I was just curious if that was where everyone was staying or not?
If anyone has stayed there before, how is it and how close is it to the comp?
My computer is down at home so I can only check this site from work now, which really sucks!

I would say any bike you like, just have brakes and two wheels, helmet and have fun.

Most recent forcast shows rain not starting until around midday, we could even be done by then.
Good job too, I would want any traction issues interfering with my 5 ft side hops:joshers:

This is the first comp that I did not take many pictures. (sorry) I just got my new video camera and got to mess with that a little, but not as much footage as I thought I had though. I was paranoid that my battery was going to run out.
Long ass drive home in the rain! (12 hrs) I had a good time though and got to meet some cool new people! :bigthumb:

Yet another Spring rain brings out the flowers to bloom, the trees to green and the trials riders to ride. Maybe one of these years we’ll have a dry competition at the NOC. Nah, what fun would that be!!! I have to admit, though, the rain this year was much lighter than last year. I don’t mind so much a drizzle here and there with sun in between. Unfortunately, the rain forecast seemed to keep a few of the riders hiding at home. But, the intrepid stalwarts that did come out were treated to a beautiful, cool but sunny competition day. It didn’t even threaten rain until after the competition was over. No snot-covered picnic tables this year!
Everyone seemed to enjoy the event. I tried to set the sections to be challenging but a bit easier than my norm. It’s funny, sometimes it’s easier to set really hard sections than easier ones. It’s finding that balance in between that is the most difficult. I think the scores speak for themselves as far as the ratio between the section difficulty and rider capability. In the end, though, it’s all about having fun. And, from what I saw, most everyone did that.
I want to thank everyone for coming out and making this event a success. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking to plan an event when you’re just not sure if anyone is going to show up. I really enjoy getting see old friends and make new ones. It’s also always a pleasure to work with everyone at the NOC, especially Kathy. You don’t know how much it means to us that you enjoy having us there and keep inviting us back. Lastly, I must thank Doug, Tom and especially my Dad for all of your support. I had a great time, again!
