I talked to Mike Friddell last night and Keyesville WILL be a NATS event.
The comp on Saturday will be:
Regisration at 9AM
Riders meeting at 9:45
Start at 10 AM
Classes will be beginner, sport, expert and pro. No 20 or 26 inch separation.
For Sunday those willing to stick around I was thinking about having a mini comp. Charge 10 bucks to beginner sports and experts and ride the sections backwards. Hopeflly trying to get some hardgood prizes for the winners.
I will charge the pros $20 and ride the sections backwards a couple of laps and winner take all of the pro entrance money

Flying info? Places to stay?

Here's the poop...
The best info is at the Southern Sierra Fat Tire Assoc. website...
ssfta.com
Motels are: Isabella Motel (760) 379-2800. There are others, much more expensive in the Kernville area.
The Keyesville Classic Trials is located near Lake Isabella, which is approximately 35 miles North in the SIerras above Bakersfield, CA.
For those flying in, the major airport is LAX, the 2nd best is Bob Hope in Burbank, CA. From Burbank, it is about a 2 hour drive. From LAX, depending on the time of arrival, about 4-6 hours. It isn't that much farther from LAX, but you will hit alot more traffic. For best results, fly into Bob Hope Burbank, rent a car and make the drive.
Everything in LA centers around the Hwy 5 interstate. Take it North out of LA toward Bakersfield. Just North of the I-5 and Hwy 99 split, follow the signs to Lake Isabella/Kernville. From this intersection, it's about an hour drive. Just follow the Lake Isabella signs. The last 25 miles are curvy mountain roads. When you arrive in the town of Lake Isabella, follow the signs to Kernville. You will go by Lake Isabella on the right. The Keyesville riding area is approximately 1 mile from the town of L.I. on the left side. There will be signs.
Camping is pretty free form. The trials guys are generally on the left side of the road, up among the rocks, just a hop away from the permenent toilet structure. It is primitive camping, no running drinkable water. But town, with restaurants, grocery stores, etc. is only a mile away.
The weather is always different. We have been there in March/April & hit light snow, 85 degree days or light rain. Expect anything. Temps are generally around 39-40 at night. There is alot of great granite stands, loose, slippery streams, twisty tree stumps, etc. Trials heaven abounds.
For more info, e-mail me at maedaddyo@yahoo.com or call Zak at 626) 827-1061.
Remember the details...trials event is on Saturday, 17th...registration at 9 AM, riders meeting at 9:45 AM. Skill levels are Beginner, Sport, Expert & Pro. No distinction between mod & stock, as per NATS. If enough UNIS show up, make your own class.

Will there be any more comps in the keyesville area later in the year?

There may be the opportunity to ride the Keyesville area, if the Kernville Fat Tire Festival invites us to do trials again in October. While the area isn't nearly as good, it is in the general area, and lots of fun riding goes on there.
It's usually the weekend before Halloween.

I don't know about anyone else, but I had a ton of fun there. Some of the most fun I've had riding trials.
Also, thanks to Zak and everyone else that helped make this possible.

Even though I was completely destroyed by the sections, I still had a great time. I have never had that much pressure mentally in a comp. It defintiely gave me some inspiration to ride. Too bad there was all this snow on the ground when I got back.....
Thanks Zak, I hope to be back next year!

I heard he shreds the LA scene :coold:
I had a good time. I didn't win the comp, but I won at showing a bunch of LA people how to drink whisky.
Edit: I have pics too but they're not up yet, I will post 'em.

He's from Japan and is now going to school in the US. I think he came over last year? He started riding at 5 so he's pretty good. ;)

Hey Duncan...
Glad to see you're still around & interested in trials.
Masahi Ishiguro is from Japan, he is currently living in the Northridge area of LA, which is the Valley. He has an advance degree in pharmacy, and is going to Cal State Northridge, living with a U.S. exchange host family. His studies here are to learn conversational English, so it doesn't help when Zak & the other assorted Urban Monkeys speak Borat-style English to him..."Harrrrro Masashi"! It's cool to watch & hear Dice-K Koya, who speaks fluent Japanese, translate for him. He has a good sense of humor about the Borat-talk.
He rides the BIU class just under Elite, on the Japanese Monty team. It is awesome to watch him ride, he is so light on the pedals. But last summer, when Zak got to ride with Kenny Belaey & Hans in Orange County, his comment was that Masashi was a long way from Kenny's league. Hard to believe.
