Has anyone ever used a rear hayes disc brake and did it work well?
I am debating about using my avids, magura or the hayes.

Mags or nines?
Rotor size?
i'd say use either the Magura or Avids

And which Avids and Maguras do you have? Even decent hayes might not be up to par if you have good avids or maggies

I have the Hayes mag with soft ebc pads on the back of my DJ bike and it slips very often when trying to do trials moves.

I had those pads on my mag and they sucked, had better luck with stock pads.
And a bigger rotor of course.

The kool stop pads worked okay too, but they took forever to break in.

In the past, I use to run Avid mech disc brakes in the rear, but the caliper kept breaking on me. Avid sent me about 3 replacements and then I got tired of sending them back.At least for stopping power right out of the box, I think the avids work the best. It's just every time I'd run them on my mod, the caliper would break on me.I just wanted to see if the hayes would be ok, I don't need to deal with slipping out all the time either.
I guess I might have to go back to using avids, I never liked using magura's in the rear.Which avids would you guys suggest, BB7's?
Thanks,

My hayes are from back in 00, I think it's an HFX and the rotor size is 6".

Brakes must be a lot in preference. I've never really liked the feel of hopes, but always liked Hayes. I like martas though :dunno:
Edit: I wouldn't trust a 6 inch HFX for a rear brake. Mabe 7 inch rotor

From my somewhat successfull attempts to pedal kick my freeride dually (which was fun, and has been usefull once or twice on the shore), I've found that hayes brakes have really bad pad play, and not so good power. The BB7 has less pad play because one of the pads is fixed, and excellent power. I'm really upset to hear that the BB7's have been breaking on you. Where do they break? Does the adaptor break, or the actual caliper?? I was hoping to use an avid on the rear, and am now reconsidering that choice:( Post mount or IS with adaptor?

I have the Hayes HFX 9 on my DJ, 8" in front 6" in rear. They are garbage compared to my Avid BB7 on my trials.
I tried everything to make them work well, bleeding, new pads, cleaning the rotor... and still they feel weak and slip like there is no tomarrow.
After using Hope, Magura and Avid. I would use any of those over the Hayes.

you should try the new hayes 9 inch rotor a bit expensive but when you need more power ... any ways i have hayes nines with 6 inch rotor and it holds up ok most of the time but i think i need a way bigger rotor

9" rotor, holy crap.
Why not make a stronger caliper.

My guess is its just to keep temp under control. A few companies out there have produced 9 inch rotors.
