View Full Version : Hope Mono Trial Flex....

So I've had my Mono Trial for about 6 months give or take. When I first got it, it was insanely powerful, with a real snappy lever feel.

Recently, it has started to get spongy, and nothing will remedy it. It seems that the one piece caliper is flexxing like a bitch. If I hold the caliper in my hand and squeeze the lever, you can feel the whole thing bulge.... Gay

Anyone else had this problem......???

Anyways, I'm after a new brake. Anyone know if they have beefed up the caliper for 07.....??? Otherwise I am gonna try an XTR, which also runs a one piece caliper, but it is forged not cncd.....

Sorry to rave on....

The Mono Trial calipers are relatively flexy right out of the box - its just down to the massive piston advantages they have.

Tried a re-bleed and a new set of pads, plus facing your disc mounts? I would guess this would solve your problems instantly, however it's impossible to say without seeing your brake exactly what would work.

The 07 caliper remains mostly unchanged, I certainly can't notice any difference in stiffness.

Cheers

Rebled, new pads, disc tab faced, new seal kit..... Still shit. You can seriously see the caliper flexing out...... :(

I'd recommend you call up Hope's tech support. Tell them how it used to feel really stiff at the lever, but now it's really spongy even after taking it to a Hope dealer and having it re-bled. They'll probably give you an RA# and ask you to send it back. But make sure you ask them what they do on their warranty service because if they're just going to rebleed it again, and simply make sure the brake just works (but not focus on how stiff it is) than it probably wont even be worth it for you.

i've had three hope mono trials calipers and they all flex. like thetart said its because of the big pistons.

I Am A Huge Guy, And Mine Are Awesome. If They Are Flexing, I Don't Notice It.

mine have that little bit of squish too. i also re-bled it and shortened the brake line. i think the tart is right. mine never felt "stiff" so i figured i'd try to fix it. it's just the way they are.

If the brake is stopping your wheel when and where you want it to, I'd say get used to it! Your caliper is not the only one in the world thats flexing. Ive noticed a flex in mine the first day I installed them 6 months ago......I got used to it!...regardless of what my finger is feeling at the lever, my bike IS stopping when I want it to, which is all that matters.
