I'm thinking of painting a frame and was wondering if anyone knew how to make their own custom graphics that could eventually be put on a bike frame? I'm personally thinking of using photoshop but are there any other ways? Anyone in particular that might do it for me?
Any suggestions would help.

Illustrator is the industry standard for making logos.

You can make them, bring them to a sign shop and have them made in vinyl....clear cote over a few...

Sounds good, I took your advice and I "bought" illustrator. So any sign shop would be able to do this sort of stuff? Any idea how much it would be around?

should be very cheap...if you have everything ready and separated (if more than one color) it should be less than $50 for a big sheet with different stuff all over it...you could also print it out, do some masking..krylon :) But it will be super ghetto.

Or look into sticker people, but I never really trust stickers.

stickers can be dandy, the whole sides of race trailers are just big 3 or 4 foot wide sticker panels.

try to google a sticker shop who lets you upload your own designs.
I know a german site, but i doubt they ship to Canada or USA.
Its pretty cheap and you can chose from tiny sheets (20mmx20mm) for 5€ up to huge car decal sizes (1mx1m) 70€.
Im sure there is a canadian or usa shop that has the same service.

There are a million things to learn in Illustrator, for right now. Try and peep how to learn the pen tool,to create oulines and the use of gradient mesh. You can do make some pretty cool designs and those choices aren't that hard to learn.I'd even get a book and try some tutorials and learn how use the program that way as well.

Thanks everyone for the help. Illustrator finished downloading and I got a full tutorial for it aswell. I'll hopefully get everything done in the near future and post it up.

How complicated do you want to get? It may be nicer or more impressive if you mask it out and paint what you want...

To start, I was just thinking of screwing around with the decals for my tibo. Isn't masking stuff out decently hard to do well?

the easiest way to do anything is to simply do line drawings in illustrator, and have them cut out of adhesive vinyl.

These usually run me 12 dollars US a square foot, minimum 2 feet, and you have to weed out all the excess with an exacto.
make sure you convert all your text to outlines, or it won't work.
also, make sure the sign shop has the same version of illustrator you are using, or you'll have to save it as a legacy format.

Finally...ask at the sign shop for "painter's mask" it is the adhisive is less sticky, and is easier for painting. if you are just going with stick on (shown below) just get the regular adhisive vinyl. the heavy duty stuff doesn't work for fine detail, and will peel off.
