LEFT COAST!
So who is game for congregating near the Crankwerks festival? We could have some serious fun coordinating with the CPTA guys and camp out near there in B.C. Port moody is just a small drive away as well.
Just thowing this out there as it's already an event, so let's get the after party rockin!

The thing I'm not sure about is the fact that the comp and natural riding are in BC, but the City/Culture/Fun is in Seattle.
Hmmmm.

Hood River is SIIIIIIIIICK
I would want to retire at a place like that ,.. if someone would blow up the walmart down the street from old downtown.
If you are looking for some super secret squirrel trials there:
Cross the river to Washington head east through this little town where kite boards are built then pull off at the first major dirt road where you see a big ass cliff. There is all kinds of stuff hidden back in those woods and on top of that cliff/plateau. The Plateau looks like something out of Lord of the Rings,.. NZ style.
Probably re-con it with a XC till you see the rocks I"m referring to.
As for Seattle: We could host a bunch of peeps no problem. We also know of good places to stay for cheaper than Paris. SLR types should be shooting, and drinking. Phenom riders should be killin it. Old farts like me can do what they want.

yeah the walmart is just asking for something terrible to happen to it.
i think i actually went hiking at that "secret" spot last week, crazy cool stuff up there. My cousin teaches at the school there. i also have a place to stay in seattle already, so i'll have to come up a bunch.
also, i may be able to have space for a few peeps to crash, my aunt and uncle barely use their house on mercer island anymore

My thoughts are to do it a different time than Cwrks. The comp wasn't mindblowing, still good stuff and its kinda overrun with all the squsihy bike folks and rich folks and other folks and I don't know what else is arround for terrain in the very nearby. I'd rather see a Seattle/VanCan days another weekend where we could lay down some sick natty (Goldbar anyone?) then head back to an area where a decent number of riders have roofs and civilization (think of a city that starts with S and ends in eattle) and then do the nightlife, then ride some of the best urban in the country (aka Freeway) and all that plus more natty and rowdyness. Just my thoughts. I'll do whatever and plan on hitting up the Whislter comp, but I'd rather have our Days be about chilling and rinding and partying and maybe a lowkey comp if there is interest.

Wow, thanks for the poz in my neg hole.
Dates are NOT set in stone people. If you have a better idea then speak up instead of giving me bad karma bs points.
So NO on August?
September is one of my favorite months, but all the kids in school will whine and complain.
June is nice too, but same difference for skoolies, especially Canadian ones that don't get out till almost July.
July?
I don't really care as long as I get to hit CO and MA

I'm not flip flopping on the issues here, Whistler has some good points, like easy access to bars for the night life and all (and religous discussions), and has that "foreign country" flair to it (and serious bike theft), but that also means pricey everything and my phone costs way more to use 'cause those canadians are thieves. It does make sense if lots of folks are planning to travel that way for the comp and all, I just would rather see things based around some serious jam sessions in a different locale.

So the question is then,.. Early Summer or Early Autumn

Of course not all 'schoolies' are kids.
With the weather, we'll be in school at least until the 29th of June (that is not an exaggeration!!!). I do like what Peter said about chillin wit da homies in a more casual setting. (I will be at Crankwerks with my squishy bike, and maybe do another camp with Wade Simmons and Richie Schley afterward. That is for Peter so he has some fuel with which to berate me next time we ride. God knows he needs material.)
Either way it would be great to meet, watch, learn from, and generally school anyone who chooses to get together. I will plan to be where ever the gathering happens when ever it happens, as long as it is within a day's drive.

Yea,.. let's keep it low key.
ALL are invited,. but due to the momentum that East and CO will have,.. I don't want to take away from that.
Idealy what should happen under some sort of diplomatic lead would be for us to all agree on a unified spot each year.
Maybe next year. But for this one,.. we shall have fun.

As I think about my summer, which I know is a big concern for everyone, I'm thinking late July. Crankworx is the 21-29 which is a Saturday to the following Sunday.
Joel, when will the Trials competition portion of Crankworx be? Beginning? End? It seems that either one of those weekends would be optimal for a regional gathering. It seems to me that the big concern will be whether or not those interested in competition will want the group (or grope) thing to happen before or after the competition in Whistler. What about planning around that.
If the competition is at the end of Crankworx, 27-29 then the Colorado OTN is the following weekend. That could be 3 weeks of trials overdose. Too much of a good thing is great. It seems to me that Crankworx is a big draw and tapping into its mistique and broad appeal. Both the Crankworx and Trialsworx (biketrials bc) are a pain to search to find when the trials competition was, though I have a friend who saw a bunch of trials bikes there when he volunteered at the slopestyle event, which puts it at the end of the festival week.
An informal affair preceeding Crankworks either in Seattle or Vancouver would be sweet, and those of us who are not competitors could go up and cheer on those who put it on the line officially.
Some thoughts while avoiding writing a paper that is due by Midnight.

I emailed Mike Baia a while ago concerning the Japan BIU thing,.. and he is the head honcho of Trialswerx.
We should get in touch with him and make certain of the dates and times. The most likely scenario would be POST comp on Sunday in town,.. urban, hanging out,.. whatever.
Like I said, it'll happen anyways, but lets just provide the hospitality/organization for some downtime with other riders.
