hey all
im thinking about coming to this trial at arcadia and ive never competed before. i have been riding for several years though. i was wondering what the standard is for a sport section? whats involved in the section? and how many sections and laps etc.
thanks
I rode sport at the last Arcadia comp, there were a couple of hard lines, a 45 degree off camber rock roll down thing and a 4 foot drop. The rest was just tech lines, some basic roll ups, no big pedal ups or taps required, all nice and low to the ground.

Great to see another new face.... Welcome Dave.
The sport level is pretty high I would say, compared to National level comps. It really suits the guys that are riding it now though, if that makes sense. The bet thing to do would be to come along and check the sections out and make up your mind then.... I promise sections will be fun though like last time....
PLEASE COME ALEX :D

Have had a few emails, mostly from novice riders, about rules....
The NSW State Biketrials Series is run to MTBA rules, which are a slightly modified version of the UCI rules.... Here's a link to the full Australian rules: http://www.biketrialsaustralia.com/Pages/Calenders/MTBA-Trials-Rules-ver-final.pdf
If anyone has any questions just PM me.......
One question about the rules, section 6 says " If a section is completed with a total of 4 penalty points, then the rider recieves a score of 3 for that section. " Does that mean that if you have 4 dabs you actually get 3 (i.e. the 4th dab doesn't count?). If so why?

Yeah thats right, its called a dirty 3 (if you get 4 dabs), I guess it helps keep your scores lower?
Macbeth

That's a rule carried over from BIU rules..... Basically it gives the rider a free dab a 3 they can use as a strategic dab. Generally it is called 'dirty 3'..... You'll notice there has never been a 4 on any of our score cards.....
GarthMc
01-04-2007, 02:34 AM
I think the idea behind it's introduction was that it distiguishes better between riders that actually make it through a section, and those that "five out"
EG Rider one 5's just after he gets out of the gate then gets a 3 in his next section. Rider 2 makes it through 2 sections with 4 dabs in each. Same number of dabs, But who is the better rider? With the Drity three rule rider two gets 6 points and his efforts are recognised as better :)

What sort of sections are there going to be on the weekend? do you need anything for sections, ie pallets, tyres, wooden planks etc.... or is it all going to be natural? i have some stuff lying around at home if we need it......:dunno:
How is everyone getting there? I can give one person a lift...

Hi Guys,
Just a couple of days out from the comp..... Course is looking nice. Just a couple of things before we get cracking.
It's more than likely going to be hot as hell. AK and I were out there all day yesterday and it was 37 degrees. I've had a look at the BOM site and it says it's gonna be 24 with a couple of showers on sunday, but I'd be prepared for a cracker. There'll be loads of cold drinks out there, but I'd bring a lot of water anyways and some sun screen (or zinc if you are Simon:D)
Other than that we are ready to rock, just got a couple of things to do on saturday, like mowing the carpark and shit, but that's easy......
Catch you all sunday,
Adam

Comp was sick, huge novice turnout and even a few more sports riders in the mix now.
Think we need to think about another class as the gap from novice to sport has become pretty big, maybe make sport easier and elite slightly harder than sport with Pro being the hardest line??
Any comments?

i showed up for novice. had a lot of fun. props to all involved in running the comp and to all the guys who took the time to answer my questions and give me some pointers. it was great to watch the skills in the sport and the elite classes, serious bravery!
i'm keen to work on that style of riding. i guess i'll start with my street bike and then move onto a real trials bike if i feel like i'm progressing.
i've got to say, it's a major jump from novice to sports class!!!!!! it seems like there is room for an expert class in there somewhere!!!!!
Great comp guys. Thanks to all who put it together. Really looked pro too. Looking forward to seeing the pics.
I think what Damo said makes sense. I think the jump from novice to sport is too big and makes it really tough to move up (props to Pete and Jas for giving it a go) and the moves required to even complete a section too advanced (not to mention the fear factor of some of those drops (props to Pete Again)) I think if sport was a little easier and then elite and pro were above that it would be better. That said if that was an elite course, I can only imagine what pro is like.
All in all a very fun day though.
sounded like a good comp......
i cant wait to see the pictures seeing as i was away having fun with my family all weekend :ugh2:

Thanks to everyone that came out and made it a top day. Saw some very good riding in all classes by men and women as well.
How many riders were there all up macbeth? i think its probably our biggest turnout yet, which is definately a good thing

01-14-2007, 05:44 PM
great comp, well organised- thanks to the Adams! if we get a turnout like that surely we can incorporate a another class? It does mean more work for the organisers but each comp i have been to has been bigger and bigger each time so numbers shouldn't be a prob. And if Sport and Elite become easier with an introduction of a Pro or Expert class, then the likes of JD Owen and damien can move up. You may only have 2 or 3 riders in that top pro class but i assume you would ride them at the same time as elite. Which would be good for the riders and spectators. I suppose the other option is to create a beginner class and make novice harder with some drops and ups? but i think the idea of a pro or expert class better. anyway great comp guys and thanks to everone involved both riders and organisers :wiggle:

Any results?
Just want to say that the comp was awesome, really pro organisation and the sections were set up very nice. 5 big JD thumbs up to all the organisers :bigthumb:
There is a problem with sport class being too hard for some and novice being too easy for others. I think we should have novice and sport run in the morning and have an expert and elite class run in the afternoon. This will enable us to drop the level a bit in sport and help those riding novice now progress to the next level. For the expert class you could leave it mostly the same as elite but take a few of the big/harder moves out and leave a few in.
I don't think there should be a class called pro because because nobody is pro and it confuses riders coming in from other disciplines, keep it standard novice/sport/expert/elite.
Nathan
01-14-2007, 10:27 PM
I was just thinking... If were too short on numbers to run 4 class's. I think I'd just make sport a little easier. It'd encourage the top Sport riders to move up to Elite, and the top novice riders into Sport.
Personally I found Novice way to easy. But there was no way I would have made it through any of the Sport sections with anything less than a 5.
If sport didnt have those huge drops (like section 2) I would have definatelly entered in sport.
The other thing to do is maybe just make novice harder... put in some ups, and drops... The less experienced riders can always dab to get though.
Anyways, I wanna say cheers to Macbeth, AK, CBD, M-W MTB, the Observers (I know you enjoyed it Sam!!!) and everyone else who put in a top effort and made it such a good comp! Awesome prizes too! :naughty:

great comp had alot of fun, even though on every section i only made it to gate 3 and then fived!!
It would be great if sport was easier either that or could we try and stick some rockets on our bikes and get through the sections with loads of power. (old endro rule, when in doubt, power out)

it was a good comp, great weather and great turn up.
one guy made a day trip and came down from Queensland for the comp with his 2 kids. the youngest person entering was a 9 year old boy on a 16-inch trials bike, he did pretty well for his age!
