Well, I took the plunge and bought my first trials bike. The guy I bought it from says it's a Monty from 2002. The front set of mags will be installed soon!!! :greddy:

The Left magura in the 1st pic has been adjusted. The tires are pretty worn and it needs a coat of paint. Any ideas?

I'm thinking yellow, but I'm not sure how to go about painting it. Do I just mask it off, spray paint it and apply some sort of clear coat?

ya. i would rather take everything off the frame and then paint it. and then, yes just apply a clear coat.
if you want my suggjestion i would paint it white and blue like the original monty alp colors.
like this. just my 2 cents

I've been trying to do trials on my Kona Stuff for a few months so I can do the basic stuff. It was pretty stupid with 5 inches of suspension and all :dunno:
The most tech thing I can do so far is get up on the back wheel, hop forward once and hop again up a curb a little over a foot.
I have to say, trials is ton of fun and you can do it anywhere! Like, say, in a dorm room :ugh2:
I'm friends with a bike mechanic, so he might have time to take it apart over holiday break so I can paint it and do a rebuild.

That first photo is crazy...it looks like a photoshop edit but I assume it's not?
Dece bike fo sure, is that fork rewelded right under the steer or is it just the pic. If it is I would get a new one.

Are you talking about the green mags? Not edited, just green :bigthumb:
There are no rewelds on this bike. I think what you're seeing is just excess lithium grease I need to wipe off.
Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. I just have one question abou the hydraulic rim brakes: How do I adjust them if one pad rubs? I noticed that the wheel isn't centered between the seat/chain stays (about 1/8 inch off to the left looking at it from behind). Even with more space on the right side, the right pad still rubs while the left one is about 1/8 inch off the rim. The pads do sit all the way back into the calipers (?). I don't need to dish the wheel more, do I?
How can I adjust this? Street credz to whoever can figure out what I'm talking about... :h5:

Can you line the rim straight on the bike?
Or no matter how hard you try, the rim seems to be over farther on one side?
Thus- making a brake rub.

Well, it was rim was dished away from the side that was rubbing
I found out that the calipers were floating in the clamp housing things, so I just played with that and got it to work. Ghetto fabulously for sure.
Thanks

trials will also turn you into a skilled ghetto technician, also known as a bike mechanic!
don't be afraid to tinker with things on it alot, you'll learn alot about the parts and how they work.. get ideas on how to make them work nicer..

Sounds to me like the way you fixed it wasn't ghetto fabulous, it is the way to move the calipers. The calipers should "float" in the clamps, just not after you've tightened them ;)

Well the black bridge thing (I wouldn't call it a booster) was kind of bent to one side so that the calipers have way different offsets, but it's not terrible.
There's lots of stuff for trials riding at WMU - most of it I'm not good enough to do yet. I'll prolly post a vid in a month or so
ROF, I have a negative reputation!

That brake will cut through your tire pretty quick if you dont get it adjusted better than the picture.
If you get that brake working so it doesn't rub then you have a nice first trials bike there.

The Left magura in the 1st pic has been adjusted.
:ugh2: is taken care of
What I should have said: The left magura in the 1st pic has since been adjusted

Oh, also, since the rear mounts are not designed for maguras (at least I don't think so), is there a booster that will fit it? The black bridge provides the upper holes for the maguras which is only bolted to the v-brake mounts.
If I make my own (I assume out of steel), what should the thickness of the plate stock be?
