View Full Version : Hey nice rack!
Just got this bike rack made up for me by Gripsport in Australia, works really well for bikes with funny top tubes or small frames i.e. Trials bikes.

Takes about 1 minute to load.

NICE! Do you just strap the wheels then or what?? I really like that design though. What did it run you??

I've just got an old inner tube looped through itself on the crank holder support, once the bike is in just stretch it over the top tube and over the pedal on the other side, doesnt really need to be tied down though.
They cost $288 AUD, you can get a triple carrier too.

looks pretty sweet. Seems as though the pans you set your wheels on are much wider than necessary. Just what i noticed. The crank holders are a good idea.

Technically, I don't see why you'd need any straps, but I'd have smaller width tracks as stated and throw a srap around each wheel, you know so when you're rallyin and hit that jump they stay on...:D...seriously great design tho.

Its probably just to allow for bikes with wider/narower bottom brackets or maybe fat tyres. I've got three bikes and they all fit perfect, will be loading in a mates Vinco on Thursday so we'll see how that goes.

That's awesome JD, I was thinking about getting out of those for my car too.
Is there any Quick release for it? Or do you have to take the ball off to take the rack off

Very pimpin bikerack! I have indeed noticed the problems with carrying stupid trialsbikes on my regular Thule HangOn. I can fit three bikes with some hassle, my Czar and Jockes Pure fit nicely since they have quite normal frame tubing, but the Adamant A1 causes more problems. Always need to tie it down specially with loose straps.
Thule also has some rack that reminds me of yours, like a shelf you place the bikes on. I think it's tiltable so you can open the trunk without taking the bikes off.

ha, who cares about the rack, thats a very nice car! Very good buy.

We travelled to adelaide (9 or 10 hours drive) with a trailer with only the pedal attachments and some inner tubes. The bikes barely moved, even when we were doing donuts in the minibus. :eek5:

Yeah, my Vinco has a tendency to not fit on bike racks, should be right though JD, see you this afternoon :D

Believe it or not the Vinco didn't fit :? , too high off the ground and the cranks were barely reaching the crank holders, it was ok but we had to use a couple of extra straps to hold her down. Gonna get Grip to make me up an extension piece for carrying that bike, should be easy enough.

Nice rack. I have been looking for something like that.
I see a couple of potential problems with that one. Not a lot of ground clearance. You could really smack that coming out of a parking lot. I would like to have a rack like that with some rise built into it. I am not so sure about the crank arm thing. Doesn't that scratch up your cranks? Not a big deal on a trials bike but I am thinking about my road bike.

My car is kinda low so yeah the rack sits low, on a standard car or non-sports car it wouldn't be a problem. I havent bottomed mine out anyway.
Most people are dipping the crank holders into this plastidip stuff which leaves a thick rubber coating on the holders and stops them scratching the cranks.
I've now got the Vinco adapter made up free of charge from Grip :) extends the crank holder by 10cm, yet to test it.

Is this company who made these mass producing them (selling them worldwide)...if not, it might be something they should consider.
I'd say only in Australia, send him an email but I think he just makes them to order. Shipping would be expensive as they weigh a fair bit.
