i have read everything i could find on the subject but still have some questions.

im getting an adamant 07 and i'm still meditating on:
long frame + zoo fork = 1095mm WB
short frame + zoo fork = 1075mm WB
or
short frame + echo control = 1080 WB

my pitbull has 1100 at the moment and now that i'm doing more front wheel moves i find my tail too long and hard to swap to back wheel on coust.

has anyone switched from a long to a short frame?
any new experiences with wheel base?

Moved from BT 5.0 to planet-x tibo;

Easier to pull up to manuals / bunnyhops, much easier to go from front wheel straight to rear. I find it funnier and easier to ride with a shorter bike.

short bike for fun, long bike for big moves

not to say big moves cant be done on a short bike, but you get the idea

i'm guessing stefan is deutsch, he means how tall are you...

but i went from a BT 5.0 to a 6.0 short and for some reason everything seemed easier, i lost about 25mm in wb length, and its a lot easier to do spins and stuff

I depends on your height also. I'm 5'10 and I ride a ZOO pitbull 1065 with an Echo 400mm fork. I can hook and do front wheel moves well. If your a taller rider than maybe a longer bike would be a better way to go.

The wheel base is only relevent as it relates to headtube angle and bb height. Most riders like to have fun.......doing a front wheel hook/zap is great, but if the bike is so long that 5 other moves suffer because of long wheel base (like pivoting on front wheel etc...)...... then I'm not sure most riders will want the long wheelbase. Having watched riders for 10+ years, there is definatly a middleground somewhere, where "competition friendly" geometry is balanced with "fun geometry".

To super high BB, well I think that trend is fading....so there is not much point in reiterating what has already been said.

Headtube angle. This is critical, on any bicycle. Long ago and far away, headtube angles were steep....... really steep...... like a number of them were 74 degrees. Seems we have moved all the way the other direction, 71 degrees. Too steep and rolling down stuff can be quite a bit more challenging........but too relaxed and the bike is no longer as flickable (i.e. handles like a chopper!.....ever see the headtube angle on the Sunn stock frame a few years ago?....don't think it even broke 70 degrees!).

Now, steep headtube angle (if keeping same wheelbase as 71 degree headtube angle) means longer top tube. JJ Gregorowicz (who is 6 feet a few inches tall) favorite trials bike was his Crescent..... only 1055mm wheelbase! BUT, the headtube angle was 74 degrees, thus making the toptube/cockpit area quite roomy/long.

So where doe this all lead us? I'm thinking that what most (yes....always wacky Vinco exceptions) riders have fun on is 0-35mm or so up BB, 72 or 73 degree headtube angle and wheel base of like 1065-1075 (depending on steepness of headtube angle). Now, this working with average height of like 5'8"-6' tall.

A number of brands are getting there, and it is nice to see.

Meh.......... my 2 cents worth......

Mind if I jump in? I'm a new rider looking to buy a used frame and have been offered a Pitbull long. I'm in the 5'9"-10 range. Should I even consider the long?

I wouldn't, especially if you are new. And even if you aren't, I still wouldn't.

Thanks. I do plan to ride for 'fun' not competition.

I'm 6'5", long feels great to me. Short feels like crap and i hit my knees on the stem.

but you probably want a short

I went from an 04 pitbull long version which was measured at 1085 to a short 05 pitbull measured at 1065 and all i can say is GO FOR IT.., even though I can't do some things as high as I could, like sidehops (it could be only me) I don'T care because it's much more fun.., I can bunnyhop it and this has became my new passion, bunnyhop ! can also manual it, also depends on your current stem/bar setup, I have short echo stem (90mm) with zoo bar ! and it feels perfect to me ! go for the short
