I have a GU Typhoon (with bashring) and want to put a bash plate on instead. i can get mounts welded on the frame(U6 aluminum) so im thinking all i need to do is trade out cranks and add the bash plate. Any suggestions? Bad idea? not sure if its all worth it so let me know what you think

not worth it. why do you want a bashplate? if you're having trouble balancing on the ring then remember to leave your rear brake off so you can slam your pedal down too. if it's because you want to be able to go to the left side then just use your crank as a bash. i use my left crank more than my bashring and it's held up fine for heaps of years. not worth bastardising your frame for.

sounds good. iv mostly ridden mods with bashplates(echoteam and monty) and just bought the GU, im sure ill get used to it i just like the idea of the plate better. thankx!

pretty much - of course it's up to you. but give the ring good chance first :)

I'm actually thinking of going the opposite way. scrapin my bashplate and getting a bashring instead. but I probably won't..
It seems like a lot more work than you need. welding mounts, then getting the plate, putting it on. taking the crank off .. removing cog from the crank, taking the ring off, putting the ..... can't even finish typing it.. its so much work.... blah... (I'm rather lazy)
after awhile you'll get used to the ring I bet!

yeah definatly, its actually helping me alot and getting more used to it. trying to clean everything and keep it on the rubber. takes a little more effort sometimes but deff looks and feels better. thanks!

i have a python and wish that i had a bash place...just so i didnt feel like i was destorying my frame. it almost makes me wish i had a new monty or an echo just for the plate. i am a beginner and fail a lot of the time and this my ring which also hits my frame.

I favor the plate as well, I'm suprised frame manufacturers don't just build frames with that as a option. As they also should for maggura vs v vs disc mounts, I suppose it is too expensive to have mulitple frame options. :dunno:

Yeah i might give it a try. kindof worried about weakining the frame by welding the mounts tho. ill post a thread if i decide to try it
