Hello I have a frustrating problem with my Hope XC hub (steel body). When I ran a single cog it turned out that the cog was "chipping" into the splines of the body, slowly eating itself deeper in with every pedalkick.

None of my mates has had this problem and I've never had it before, is the body of the Hope XC softer than normal? Or was it maybe the cog's splines that was too worn and made the cog fit loose and play back and forth? I've only tried with that one cog.
This is really enoying cause now I have to run a whole casette to even out the pressure to the whole body.

Can someone give me some tip so I can ride singlespeed again? =)

Is the cog thin compared to say King Kog or Surly? That may solve the problem if not I know people have welded additional cogs together & have the wide base. Most cogs from a cassette tend to dig in quicker...

buy a wider cog
or bolt more cogs together (very easy to do and cheap)
more surface - less chipping

Only wider cog base fix that problem. As we know standard cogs sometimes dig into steel body like KOXX rear fixed hub or Hope...for alloy cassete body CK/BT etc... you can't use standard cogs.

Thanks for yo answers! What you said was along the lines of what I was planning to do, try to bolt a couple of cogs together. If I can find some of them bolts...

Anyone got a good idea of where to buy wider cogs (internationally), I checked chainreactioncycles but didn't find too much.

www.cyclecomponents.se (http://www.cyclecomponents.se)

They have Surly-cogs, kinda expensive but they work fine.

Lycka till! ;)

You should be working on your spelling Oskar! :D

But I've ordered a cog from BT now that looks great. 7mm wide base...
