Hey, just thought I'd check and see what everyone runs tire pressure wise. Do you change it for riding style (natural vs. street)? Is it different for mods vs stocks? I'm running about 25 psi rear and 30 psi front on my mod.

Stock bike: 18 - 20psi in the front or rear, depending on terrain. Other variables can be your weight, how much bounce you want and if you bottom out too much or not. It can also change from what tire and rim you use... (1 ply or 2)

All in all....its personal preference. Just try different amounts.

13 in rear and about 20-25 in front. probably need to go more in rear though cause I'm getting into big drops and have hit rim way too much lately.

How often do those of you with 15 psi or less hit rim, on what surfaces, and does it matter (aka. don't dent rims?) With 20-25 in my mod rear I still barely hit rim on rails and I weight about 150.

Bryan

I used to run about 15 on a michelin with a dx32. Hit rim all the time. I got a minor flatspot once, I think gapping to an angle. I never pinchflatted. This is on a stock.

i just pump til my thumb makes a small 'dent' in the tires. [for mod and stock]

20psi front+rear. 140 pounds. I rim out on every edge I land on. Only a small dent on my DX 32 after a few months.

15 front and rear with a wide rim and michelin 24 on rear, no pinch flats so far.

Front (rhyno lite) 20-25, rear (DX32) 25-30. I have them quite high as i don't won't to pinch and i am a hack. even with those pressures though, I can feel the tyre fully compress onto the rim on sharp obsticles (without a pitch flat though)

20ish f+r, 215 lbs, dx32.

Rim out on rails and super sharp objects, but is highly dependent on how smooth I'm riding.

I usually pump to ~20 front and rear, then not touch 'em again until they get down to like 15.

On my mod I run 18 or so up front and I shoot for about 8 in the back, was down to about 5 on my last ride. I weigh 155 and i thiink it feels great, never flatted the rear on this bike.

AgrAde

i run something low. rim out just hopping on the rear wheel on anything under four inches wide. rim out gapping to front, rim out on taps, rim out on a sidehop take-off from pavement. rim out on any drop to flat over about 5 feet.

haven't flatted for about a year though, touch wood.

Damn, thats some low pressure AgrAde
I like it low too but i if it gets too low it seems for me to take to much energy to do do little corrections (pivoting ) on the front. Like when im on trail rails and i have to pivot the front bcause im losing balance, its too soft and takes way more engery . It also gets a bit too unpredictable because i sort of dont get enough feedback/information from the ground im on.

Or maybe i just feel like this because i dont have enough experience with ultra low pressure thus me thinking in dont get enough feedback and think its more unpredictable.

AgrAde
10-27-2006, 06:33 PM
it's what you're used to. i hate other people's trials bikes because the higher tire pressure makes it impossible for me to do anything. there's no bounce at all and it makes the bike feel a million times heavier.

it's pretty unpredictable though on jutted rocks and stuff. i think that may be my tires a bit though, i want to try michelins as opposed to my minions. wider rims would help too but spending money is gay, besides i ride natural once in a blue moon.

Last ride I went on before it snowed I was running 8psi because of a slow leak. Granted it was pretty difficult I actually didn't mind it. Although 12 is my sweet spot.

Then in the front I usualy use 15 or so.

Oh yeah, rear tire is a kenda blue groove on an echo rim, front tire is...Dont remember on a mavic 519

About 25-30ish for me currently for similarish stuff, although I'm starting to work on a bit of technique which is why it's a bit lower at the minute
Usually around 30 or so

I start at 20 in each, then add or take out a little depending on terrain and smoothness (or lack of).

I have found that my technique for most stuff has improved running a higher pressure as I am relying less on the bounce of the tire. I run a Maxxis holyroller on the rear, with a DH tube.
By the way, Danny Macaskill runs about 45psi!

EDIT: thats post number 50 right there, not bad for three years ... haha

Yeah, I know where you are coming from, and I kind of go through phases of playing around I suppose, but recently I have been attempting to work on a bit more 'trials' technique to back up some of my other riding, as opposed to 'street' stuff.
A few months back I'd rarely go out with less than 40/45psi f&r!
I'm running Moto Diggers both up front and out back, which for all the fast flowy stuff I find really nice, other than the rizla-thin sidewalls and tight bead...

Why would you ever run a Minion 2 ply up front? Complete overkill - adds like 200-300 unnecessary grams.
