Today I just finished overhauling my first pair of king hubs! It was interesting since I got the wheels used, and they were never serviced before, so there was some stuff to do...

After the full service (even the drive shell), with a borrowed king hub tool, I truly realized how nice these hubs are! Two years later, and there was still very little wear on them. It amazed me. And the ring drive is so simple, it is insane! No wonder it works so well. Anyways, I had fun. I have more respect for them that I now know how they work. Yeah, and there simplicity makes it fun to work on them.

I love my kings :wiggle:

btw- should I just buy the service tool? How much is it (the going rate)?

I'd love to have their hubs but I just don't got the cabbage. However, I've got their headset and it pwns.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It would be a tall order to actually build a wheelset with them. The good thing is that I got them used already built up for about $350. (tires and everything)

I have there headset too but for my dh bike, and it definitely pwns!! :coold:

Theres always that day...

The tool is like $160 US. Don't buy it unless you're going to be using it a lot.

Good point, but it doesn't feel right to borrow someone else's tool. Maybe if I can get a deal on it. I will really only need to use it once a year, but in the future I will get more king hubs... And it will always hold its value. I could sell it for $100 really easy, I hope that is.

Confusing.

Well I used my shop's tool whenever I overhauled mine, and just gave them like 5-10 bucks.

I reckon if you have a group of friends who all use kings and want to service the hub yourselves, you guys can maybe chip in together to buy the king hub tool.

Otherwise, as carnagr does, borrow it from your lbs.
