I have an old EWR Mettle and I broke the tab where the bashguard mounts to the chain stays off at the welds the other day. I checked the stays and they are fine. I was wondering if any one else has ever had this happen to there mod. What options do I have? I was thinking of getting it rewelded, but I was not sure if that would screw up the heat treating or structure of the frame. The only other option that I can think of is there any one who makes mod cranks with a front freewheel and bashring? I guess that I really don't need the bash because I do not use it, but I want something to protect the freewheel incase I slip and happen to land on it. Let me know what you think.

to answer a brief bit of that questions. You can run mod without a bashplate. The newer zoo! pythons i think have no bash plate, just a bash guard on cranks.
Ill leave the rest of answer for other people

I'm amazed that the frame has lasted this long. Its gotta be 10+ years old!

lol. old? my dad has a haro trials bike thats almost 24 years old. he beats the crap out of it and it still works perfect.
anyways i would take it to a weld shop and have them fix it. I dont think it would hurt the frame. but i wouldnt know.
CAUTION: use my suggeston at your own lisk

The bike is in great shape, and is mostly stock. I got it last year off of ebay. I switched a couple of parts out (seat, bars, pedals) that I did not like, but other than that this is the first problem that I have had with it. Here is a picture (Sorry for the bad quality). I was just wondering what I should do with it.http://www.observedtrials.net/album/data/500/medium/drive_side.JPG

Id say try getting a bashring for it. Or a new frame...but hold on to that one, its a piece of trials history!!!

Oh my, that bike reminds me of the very first trials-photos I saw on the internet when I first got to surf... I think it was like -98 or so. I thought the EWR was the coolest! Never seen one in real life.

on the mod frame i just got every bash plate mount is stripped(jon=the bomb mechanic). still deciding if i should try redrilling the threads a lil bigger or if i should just go stock cranks and bash. i think you should be able to have it welded on? would be alot easier than getting it set up so you can run a bash.

Wait... so let me get this straight. Your bash plate is fine, but the tab that is welded on your frame is no longer attached to the frame?

usually there are two bolts. one on each chainstay. if it were me I tighten the one in well and use some beefy zipties to suck the other one up to the frame. you'd probably want to flatten the tap on the bashgaurd out so it sits flush up against the chainstay but I don't see too much wrong with that.
