View Full Version : Front tire driection when fitting assymetrical tires?
This may sound like a stoopid question but there seems to be different schools of thought on this one.
For a dual purpose front/rear tire do you fit the front the same as the rear, or opposite? This is due to the different forces created by the front as apposed to the rear. What about a front specific tire?

for trials? it doesnt matter. any sticky compound tire is going to work about the same either direction.

i use rear tires front and rear. and as long as it's sticky and has big square knobs i don't care what way it goes.

tread pattern doesn't do a whole lot on concrete and rocks. pretty much just for dirt, mud, etc. (whatever the tire is for). if you're putting them on a mountain bike, don't change directions. on a trials, whatever.
I actually pay attention to it. Not sure why, it hasnt helped my riding, and nor will it!

for the front, i just put it on without looking, if its the right direction, well, yeah fine.. If its in the wrong direction, too bad.

if the tire has a scooping tread pattern (i.e. michelins, maxxis highroller, try-all, etc.) you should orient the tire so that the tread touching the ground scoops while braking (if that makes any sense). i doubt it makes that much of a difference, but every little bit of traction counts sometimes.

Sticky 2.5s all the way around properly mounted. Anything else is wrong, and half-ass and will cause death from severe internal bleeding, oh my silly superstitions...
