so i bought a specialized rockhopper like 6 months ago cause i was interested in xc mtn biking. then i found out about biketrials. considering the nearest trail is 45 miles from my house, and theres 3 skate parks within walking distance, i think it makes sense

ive never been on a trials-specific bike, and there is no place to demo one where i live (las vegas), so i need some help picking out a good beginner stock bike for around $1300

ill be doing probably 99 percent urban riding although if possible id like something that i could still do natural trials on if i ever get the urge

ive seen some buzz on these forums about the echo control being a good beginners bike, webcyclery has a complete build echo control thats in my price range

i dont even have any basic moves down yet, im still learning how to trackstand. but i work hard for my money and i enjoy spending it. i could try to learn the basics on my 19inch rockhopper (kinda big and unweildy even for me at 6ft). but i figure, in a sport where everything is hard as all hell, why not make it a little easier on myself by learning on a trials-specific bike?

so any advice? suggestions?

I was in the same boat as you about 3 months ago. Im 24 and just found out about the sport online. I live in Illinios and thers not to many trails. Me personaly, I tried to get a bunch of parts from webcyclery and i waited over 2 months then they told me they just didnt get all the stuff i wanted and sead i would haft to wait another two. Dont go with webcyclery, they gave it to me hard and they wernt even nice about it. I looked around some more and found Tim from Trialsin.com. I called him on the phone and he hooked me up with just the right bike for my size and stile i wanted to ride. From what i have learned its very importent to get the right size frame with a good bb,chainstay, and wheelbase leangth. If you dont know to much Tim can help you one on one. This is just my personal experience and i didnt have a good one with webcyclery.

Quit ripping on webcyclery, they are great guys with good customer service.. It's not their fault they didn't get everything thing in their order through overseas shipping.

Tim at trialsin is also a good guy.

They didnt give me good customer sevice at all. I was spending over 1300$ and they couldnt even give me anytime over the phone. They wouldnt even go look to see what they had. I didnt just wait for parts over seas it was the hole package.I dont have to go into complete detail about my order and how they messed it up but i definitely got something large in my ass. I respect your opinion but this is mine.

Weather you go with Webcyclery or Trialsin, you can't go wrong. Who ever has what you want in stock that's where you get it from.

The Echo Control is a great bike weather you are just starting or have been riding for years.

That's a good choice.

Matt.

a echo controls purely trials, it'd be akward to ride in a skate park (depends what kind, im thinking of a bowl/typical skate park) type thing. but u really dont need a place to ride trials, anywhere will usually do you might want a streetier bike than a control but its up to you

would the echo pure be streetier?

ive heard it has a seat tube which is appealing, but in the pics here it looks like theres no seat tube

Thats this years pure, it doesnt have a seat tube. I'm pretty sure the older models do have a seat tube. You could probably get the older one from webcyclery if you just call em up and if they still have em in stock.

Probably not. I got one of the last pures with a seat tube last year on clearance. You can buy mine if you want. A pure is only really streety if you get the short version.

Streety = Zebdi. It is the ultimate street trials machine with 26" wheels.

Tim is a great guy= Very helpfull adn informative. Webcyclery= Worked with them once. Good service. I would try www.midwestbiketrials.com (http://www.midwestbiketrials.com) also. They have a good selection and service. They are located in Chicago, so you would get you bike qiuck! Check them out.

My Zebdi has been my best friend for a couple months now.... Love the frame, very street in comparison to other frames. Harder to manual than a dirtjumper of sorts on acount of its geometry also has a high bottom bracket but the bike is butter for the type of riding I do... a shorter top tube as well, but all of that equates to a very manuverable bike, that also sits well on its back wheel. Felt comfortable on the bike right away.

can someone recommend an 06 frame with a seat that i can use for a little bit of street stuff? i dont really want to buy used.

ive looked into the zebdi but it looks like that frame is more geared toward street style with a little trials flair?

what im looking for is something more trials-ish that i can do a little bit of streety stuff on

thanks for the help so far everyone

actually the seat isnt really all that important. maybe i should just look for a dedicated trials bike in a short wheelbase? the echo control comes in 1065. im exactly 6ft tall btw.

what do you guys think?

The Zebdi is like a perfect 50%/50% trials/street frame. I almost wish I had it back. It's amazing for everything. Sure, it's a little on the short side for trials, but it's mad street abilities make it well worth it.

im just afraid the zebdis wheelbase (1020mm) is gonna be a little too cramped for my 6ft lanky ass, how tall are you?

also it has no bottom bracket rise, which im under the impression makes it a little more difficult to stand still on the rear wheel, is this correct?

a koxx code would seem like it would fit your need (never rode one, but canagr informed me of it, you could talk to him) its a koxx bike thats branded as not trials by koxx, so id figure its trialsy-streety, it has a seat as well.

I'm 6'1". I rode it with a short (80 mm) stem. If you slap a 100-110mm stem on it, it would honestly be like absolutely perfect. You will LOVE it for learning, and from there, you might move into something more triasly. To learn it is fantastic though, and is a lot closer to a normal MTB than a full-on trials bike is, so an easier transition there.

I would shy away from the Jackflash. My friend had one - it was fun back in the day, but it's not ideal for trials OR street, and as fun as it is for bunnyhopping and manualing, it's probably not what you're looking for.
