It seems like it's more of a personal preference, If you like the feel of a stock(26" wheels) bike stick with it, or if you crave more flickability a mod is a good way of going. It seems that in the internet video work mod riders do more snappy moves like spins while stock riders do more huge ups. Basically any way you go you'll be able to do whatever moves you want, just pick one and ride. I personally went from a stock to to mod 4 months after I started riding because I liked the feel better, an expensive change but I really didn't like the feel of my stock bike.

What ever you are riding now a trials bike is going to feel strange at first.
A mod is typicaly lighter, cheaper and has a bash plate rather than just a bash ring. On a mod you don't have quite as far to fall.
A stock bike rolls up stuff easier (not all moves involve rolling up stuff) and is faster rolling around which is good if you are riding from spot to spot. A stock bike has a longer distance from the front of the tire to the axel which means you ahve to get that much higher and travel that much further to land on something.
It is very much a matter of personal prefference. If you can get your hands on any trials bike, try one before you make the decision to buy. Where in the UK are you. Find a shop or someone on here to visit where you can try a bike. There are a lot of shops in the UK that sell trials specific bikes.
