Everything will hurt at one time or another.
Be patient, you will be strong!

Don't pull harder than you have to. If you pull your bike up by the brake levers you can blow seals of you are using hydrolic and strech cables or pull stuff loose with cables. You don't need to be pulling on the front brake if the wheel is in the air. Maybe that is stating the obvious, but if you are getting hurty arms and you are squeezing that front brake with the wheel in the air you are wasting energy.

err u mean trackstand? you shouldent be using ur brakes while ur learning to trackstand, although it helps u should learn without brakes it helps ur balance out alot more. everyone gets sore when they start, just give it a week or two then you should be in alot better shape and you wont be sore anymore

yeh, just keep at it and you will build up muscle in your arms and also increase muscle stamina.
i will be in exactly the same boat when im able to ride again, its been so long and i can see my arms shrinking and my gut growing...*sigh* *emo time*

I hope this isn't stating the obvious but be sure to be braking only with one finger. Also be sure to stretch your forearms 2-3 minutes into riding when your new and 10-15 minutes when your more experienced. Stretching cold muscles is bad for them, so warm them up a bit with some light riding, and then take a moment and stretch.

At what level does your brake levers go before your tires lock? If its not atleast parallel with your grips your hands would definitely ache. Braking has to be effortless otherwise your hands would ache all the time. This held back my learning backhops before, experiment with different lever angles also might help.

From my experience, especially on a mountain bike, being on the back wheel is really draining. You will build up endurance until your forearms are thick and gorilla-like, but until you become more skilled and have a trials specific bike, you will use more energy to stay up.

I also agree that the brake lever position relative to the handlebar plays a huge role, as well as the use of only one finger on the lever. You should be able to hold up your bike without that finger even squeezing the lever, since you have to let go of your brake at some time.
