View Full Version : Pinching on the chainstay?

Hey errbody -

Since getting my new KOT built up, I've had my first two pinch flats since I switched to Michy's around 2.5 years ago. When I looked at the tube both times, it was a nasty snake-bite, but the two holes were along the length of the tube, not perpendicular like in a regular pinch. Both times, it was due to landing a gap short, and sliding the tire down the face until my bash hit. I'm thinking that the tire actually folded around the chainstay and pinched. Anybody have the same experience?

For the record, it's a michy 2.5 on a tryall xxl rim, first pinch was an ultralight tube, second one was a regular-weight tube.

i tink michelin tires r more easily pinch flat than maxxis tires.

I've never had holes perpendicular to the tube. It is always along it.

Tire wrapping around the chainstays? I think the tire would have to peel off the rim in order to do that. New bike/ new geo., not used to the bike yet? Anyway, I haven't heard off anything like what you're describing. Tires do get twisted about on a trials bike though. Not sure...

How ya been?

I've heard of this happenning when the spoke nipples are not properly covered by the wrapping on the rim. When landing, the tube stretches slightly, dragging across the inside of the rim where there is supposed to be protective tape. If the tape has slid to the side, commonly happens when replacing an inner tube, the nipples tear the tube. May not be the prob, but worth checking.

I have a michelin right now.And not at all happy with its performance versus a maxxis.

Get a 2.3 maxxis ( eny ) and it wont flat wat so ever.

I had a Michy Hot S 2.5 that was flatting like once a ride. Got a Maxxis a month ago, no flats since.
