My two Peytos.
The trials bike is full of goodies. Front and rear Magura Marta brakes on 8 inch calipers, Easton bar and stem, King hubs and headset, Mavic 729 rear rim, Middleburn cranks and what not.
The park bike rocks a Peyto fork with 8 inch front and 7 inch rear Avid cable brakes, Easton bar, King hubs and headset, Mavic 729 rims, Bonz cranks, Rennen tensioner, Macneil seat and post combo and what not.
I love em both.
Right now I'm looking to get a shorter stem on the black one and some new cranks down the road. They are square taper cranks that have been through a few riders, including Dave Herr, before they came to me. Other than that I'm happy with the bike.
On the trials bike I might scoop up and undrilled bash one day so I can get Webster to machine it down for me. Other than that I'm always looking at different tires, that will never change. The new anodized red Marta's look rocking too. If these hold up from leaks for a while I may get a set of those and put the silvers on the street bike and use them as backups kinda.

I'll go through the geo and what not real quick for those that have never seen them.
Black one.
1004 mm wb.
0 drop or close to bb...cant remember
75 degree head tube
15.7 stays
It is a Reynolds frame and weighs in barely over 4 pounds with paint. Beer opener on the frame. Custom designed post mount disk tab in the back and a fork with one on the front.
Red one.
1065 mm wb, 1073 with the Pure fork tho
0 drop bb
73 degree head tube
sub 15 inch stays
This frame still has the tube on the seat post from when I ran a shifter on it. When it gets repainted that will be gone. The rear dropouts are designed to be used with King fun bolts. I'm not sure if its just the frames I've used but you can't get the rear wheel off without taking the derailleur off first. Well on my dropouts you can. My frame allows me to use any 6 inch front post mount caliper on the market on the rear of my bike and it will match up perfectly to my 8 inch rotor.
Thats it I guess.

Earlier than that. Bt.ca is that old. I guess islandtrials was still around tho. It stared around 2000. Its by far the favourite part of my bike. All the noobs have no idea what it is and anyone from back in the day thinks its just dumb. Reminds me of the good old days I guess.

I've been wondering what I'd do if my Zebdi ever cracked...looks like the black one is it, with a few mods of course...shorter stays, slacker HT, +5bb. How much did it cost to get that one made?

The islandtrials vids are are what got me into trials in the first place. I remember watching them over and over just trying to figure out how to pedal kick. Man have I ever come a long way. Anyway super nice bikes, looking forward to another vid from you guys.

nice Brett. whem was the last time you rode the red one?
BrettM
09-11-2006, 07:29 PM
2 weeks ago on the red one. I was actually riding it 3-4 times a week before that, but always by myself. Town has gotten really boring for me and I have my own secret spots out my way that I hit by myself. Lately I've been so into the running its tough to get on either bike after running.
Tybikes. The black one originally cost 1100 to get made. Thats with the expensive tubes and the couple of extras I had in it. Paul is through with Peyto for probably awhile, possibly ever, so you'd have to go elsewhere. The bike was actually designed directly around a Mark 2 Zebdi I was riding at the time in a hotel room in Toronto 4 years ago. I decided I needed to go custom because I loved the Zebdis, but the disk tabs wouldn't hold up.
I'll post the original day 1 pictures of both bikes later tonight. In my opinion they both look sexier. The red one is still red, but its a year and a half old now. The black one was blue and white, and is 3 years old now.

I guess you can say that because you're American L13 :)
Those bikes are, as ever, awesome. Never really dug the gripshift mount but then, I'm not into manual labour much anyway.

The key is to running no shifter, and no gears.
BrettM
09-12-2006, 06:28 PM
The rims were prototypes made for Cane Creek or something. They decided to switch to some goofy lacing style with the nipples on the hubs or whatever and couldn't use the rim. Thats kinda the story I heard. At the time the widest rim for trials on the market was the DX32. These were 46 or 47 mm I believe. Disk only. And ya...I got out the polished and buffed them up myself.
I run no shifter and just the one gear on that bike now. Its for pedaling tho. No trials. I can never get away with just a trials gear. I hate it. At the time you needed gears and the shifter to ride the comps. It was never a big deal. I bet most people who rocked gears and a shifter back then and still ride now probably rode a lighter bike back then and heavier now. Just the different trends in parts.

Did you say the black one (back then blue and white), has a 1004mm wb? That is short and sexy!
I like!
Props to you man!
BrettM
09-12-2006, 10:44 PM
Kind of. Its 1004, but with a 75 degree head tube. So the bike reacts with a short wheelbase, but the coqpit will feel like a bike that was say a regular trials head angle and say 1040 mm wb.
Its defiantely a weird feeling. When I'm on a traditional trials bike it feels like the bike kind of controls you. Its just so balance with the slack head tube. On this bike if you turn the bars and you aren't payin attention they'll be sideways and you'll flip. I like it. No good for pure trials, but fun.

sweet...but what's the deal with that peg thingy stickin out of the seat tube.
BrettM
09-13-2006, 10:10 PM
No. I ripped off the idea for the disk mount placement from Brisa, who ripped it off from DBR, who ripped it off from...you get the idea. I did mine in postmount instead of IS tho. The geometry is within 5 or 10 mm and a degree here and there of a PX Mark 2. I'll post pictures of my Brisa on here one of these days.
If you notice on the blue and white one I run my shifter on it, or did. When I tried going single speed I took it off and I have since gone to two gears, and am just using a barrel adjuster and a 4 inch piece of cable on the derailleur to change gears. At some point I want to get the bike re-painted because it is wet paint right now that gets ruined real easy. When I do I plan on getting some rim brake mounts added and the tube taken off.

?
The peg thing is where I used to put my grip shift when I used a shifter. I had it welded there just for something different. Now I don't use a grip shift so it just sits there.

Thats my old Brisa. This is probably the trialsiest trials bike I ever owned. Of course the frame is damn near xc geometry, but in its day it was pretty popular for a month or two. That bike was around 22 pounds with full disk.

This is the Zebdi that was the influence for the blue and white/now black Peyto. Notice that it was more than just a geometry influence.

I meant in looks. My Levelboss only had the frame as a trials specific part on it. Everything else was a mtb manufacturer. Mtb bar and stem and what not. The Brisa was trials fork and bar and stem and frame kinda. My red bike is based off the levelboss. With something like 10 mm and 1 degree on every measurement and angle.
