Ok, so i am almost done with the bike build (pics to come, i am so proud of my new bike!) And i will start phase 2. learning to ride some trials. so, i figure i will bash the crap out of my new echo pure frame with no bash plate. I made a sweet guard (laces up with strips of old tubes) out of a tire. I cut a piece out of the tire and wraped it around the bottom half of the bottom of the down tube. It looks a little funky but i was thinking that it would keep the frame a little less dinged up until I get better at this stuff. Any compelling reasons why I shouldnt lace the thing on? I cut it to the shape of the frame bottom and it doesnt look like it would interfere with the drive train. I am just wondering if anyone with experience can see a major error in doing such a thing (like certain death, somehing that breaks whenever a device like this is tried etc)
thanks,
Sorrry for being such a friker noob,
~Max~

Post pics please. I hope you mean that you have a bash guard (or rock ring as some call it), and just not a bash plate because it's not a mod.

Sounds like a good idea. The extra weight might be a drag later on. As long as there is nothing loose. They make a diamond plate piece similar to what you are describing. Aside from the weight you might have problems when it hangs up on stuff instead of sliding. Post pictures. Good luck.

pvc cut typically works well. Like said above, it get caught rather than slide over stuff. But really, you'll probably rarely hit it and is only for occasionall protection.

Yeah, got the bash ring, i will consider the pvc, didnt think of that. I will post pics of the new ride once this guy sets me up with my brakes. Then i should have a working bike for the learning.
