Lake Placid Trials Competition '07

I did a trials demo at Whiteface Mountain, just outside of Lake Placid, NY, this past weekend and the mountain brought back some good memories... of the two NATS events that took place there. The guy who runs the mountain bike center brought up the events and asked if I would like to set something up for next year... he has the insurance and probably can hook up some prize money, so at least that's a start. Sections would be all natural... rivers and rocks. Check out natrials.com for pictures from the last events... '01 and '02. What would you guys want from a competition? I would like to keep things cheap for the riders... pretty much just enough to take care of insurance and a few other small things. As far as rules go... well, whatever... it's your call. I would like it to be a laid back event... just a fun time riding bikes. I would like to do something in the town of Lake Placid the day before the event at Whiteface... for the NATS events, we had BikeMove. It got attention and a lot of people that saw the BikeMove event came to Whiteface the next day... I don't really want to do that type of event again, but something similar... again, more laid back. What time of the year? Keep in mind that there will be river sections, so late July on will be the best bet... So yeah, please give me some ideas... I had a ton of help for the NATS events, so I'll need some help to make this event happen. I just wanted to see what you guys thought before I said "yes" to anything... Thanks for your help.

Hey Sam...good to hear you're still in it! The Maeda family is down for the event if it is in the summer, and not a conflict with my work conferences.

Zak & I will even help with setting up, if needed. Let us know!

For all others...this is one of the greatest venues for a biketrials event...big rocks, slow & fast running water, slippery roots, great town, super support from the Perkins family...it has it all. We used to fly into Albany, NY & rent a car for the 2-3 hour drive to upstate New York. We then took a train to NYC for shopping for the wimmen-folk. Let's do it!!

Sounds good. The Plattsburgh International Airport should be open by the beginning of '07. Plattsburgh is 45 minutes from Whiteface... an hour from Lake Placid... and about an hour from Montreal. Could be an option for you. I need to talk with Mike, the guy who runs the mountain bike center, to try to figure out a date... he wants to run a DH race the same weekend, so there will be even more people at the mountain. We'll just have to check and make sure there aren't any conflicts with other events. I would like to do it a weekend or two after July 4th... or somewhere around there. There is still a lot in the works, but I'm really thinking this event will happen...

Sam, please avoid the weekend of July 14th-15th, 2007, since that will be when I'll be doing my NATS event at the Trials Training Center.

On another note, you should be free to pick anytime in August because the 2007 UCI Worlds in Scotland aren't until Sept. 3-9, 2007.

As it looks like it now. I may be moving out to connecticut in january after i graduate. If that is the case, i will be there.
