The line hasn't been working for the last few days so i havent had a chance to say my thanks and have a yarn. SO here we go
-We saw Thomas Ohler riding in the street one afternoon and jumped off the bus. He was the nicest dude and would ask if we wanted him to do something again to film another angle or whatever!! That was tops, he was heaps friendly. Could be seen mingling in the crowd and said hello if he ever saw us.
-another day we saw Carles Diaz down by the water riding with Thomas. He was cool too. as was Eduard Planas (Junior 20) who would acknowledge us whenever we spotted him
-the Aus team put in a good attempt, for many this was their first worlds. Unforunately most maxed out but Andrew Dickey placed 14th, our best result so far.
-Joe Brewer (AUS) put in a top effort in Junior 26". Qualified 2nd/equal 1st on countback (with Aurelien Fontenoy of France who was a fucking awesome rider, at only 16)!! He came 5th in the final.
-Zak Maeda, Pete, Jeremy Van, Cam, Billy and Ed Gildea of the US team were very cool!!! Got the opportunity to drink with Ed on the sat night ("pitchers" as he called them), he was heaps laid back and found out we like the same sort of music. "Slay some bitches" he said.
-Got to have some brief words to some of the French riders, Vincent, Caisso, Giacomo.. they were ok.
-Benito was friendly too. Got a pic of him and his out-of-control hair.
-Caisso was riding 20 and 26 prototypes, "Ah-tom" as his minder said it.
-The NZ guys, Chris, Tim? and Mike "stikman" Hickman were pretty easy going. Just like aussies but without the vowels (haha jokes). thanks mike for driving us up on Friday and hanging out with us.
-If you ever need to eat in Rotorua, you need not go past The Fat Dog. HUGE meals at reasonable prices. and i mean massive.
-Fly to Rotorua. Do not go to Auckland first. 4 hour bus trip.
-Best thing about Rotorua: you can fart and the smell goes almost unnoticed.
-Best drink: L&P (tastes like a melted down icy pole) with vodka or gin. VLP or LPG.. mmmmmmmmm. With Captain Morgan rum wasn't so bad either (LRP)
-Was disappointed that I didn't get to speak to Kenny, but as we were leaving he was coming back in so I got a chance to have a chat and get a photo (thanks to Tim Mullaly for taking it) he knew who i was, woohoo! his English is very good, unlike a lot of the french.
-Photos to come. I have 384 photos to resize though so I may be some time.
-Thanks to Owen, Simon, Mike and JD for coming on the UCI Worlds program!
mitch..
